Nokia licenses S60 to Samsung

Samsung and Nokia partner

Of all the mobile phone platforms available in the market, none is as community driven as Symbian. In fact, the S60 operating system, highly attributed to Nokia, has been licensed out a couple of times in the past. It goes as early as the Siemens SX1 back in 2004. Today, Nokia has licensed the new Nseries S60 operating system once more to Samsung, specifically for units like the G800 with Xenon flash. I’m not quite sure though how certain aspects of the licensing would work.

For instance, will N-Gage become a part of this engagement (lolz I made a funny)? Nonetheless, I feel that Samsung made a good step in doing this partnership as S60 has a huge developer based especially for the photography-related applications for the cameraphone, such as PanoMan.

So for every Samsung unit sold, Nokia makes some money. Both sides win :)

  1. My favorite mobile phone is still Nokia. I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
