Nokia N71 and Nokia N80

It’s more of the same from Nokia. They have this habit of tweaking one feature and marketing decides to package it as a new phone.

Take for instance the N71 – pretty much the standard set of features of the Nokia 6680 with two cameras in and out. The difference lies in its design as a clamshell, which, as some women have reacted, gives a sense of closure after a call.

The N71 has two cameras. The main camera is a 2 megapixel camera (1600 x 1200 pixels) with a 20x digital zoom. The second is a VGA camera (640 x 480 pixels) with a 2x digital zoom. I guess this is no Carl Zeiss, but technical specs seems good anyway. Propably better quality than a cheap digital camera. The camera has the following modes: still, sequence or video.

The N71 also features compatibility with Visual Radio, which is pretty much like an interactive radio service where you can search for artists and songs while listening.

On the other side of the fence, we have the Nokia N80, obviously inspired by 7650 nostalgia. From how it looks, the N80 is the enterprise solution that fits right in between audio (N91) and video (N90) splendor. Here’s why – it is odd (but great!) of Nokia to include a battery that lasts for more than one day to support PDA-like functionality. The huge 352 x416 resolution screen adds to the already “Tungsten E-esque” design. Add WiFi to boot plus the ability to use the device as a wireless home remote and we’re good to go!

The one new feature both phones have is that they support the new NOkia browser mini browser:

According to Nokia the browser gives a semi-transparent zoomed-out overall view of a web page, enabling users to intuitively navigate to all corners as well as see the web site as it was originally designed. The browser enables RSS feeds, so you can subscribe to news and receive regular updates.
