OLED displays and moving stuff around

Hi folks, just a small update on C9. We’re doing some virtual moving around of stuff on the blog. You may already have noticed some of these – like ads being moved about. Well, we’re doing some redecorating. But don’t fret dear readers. This won’t have any effect on the site being taken down for maintenance.
On an interesting technology note, did you know that Eastman-Kodak invented OLED technology back in the 1980’s?
What I’ve been wondering though is why OLED displays have not yet penetrated the mobile market that much yet in spite of their better overall performance compared to LCD? The answer could simply be consumer awareness. But then again, phone manufacturers like the newly merged BenQ-Siemens are changing that with the S88.
OLED screens have:
- faster response times
- ultra thin layers
- more efficient power consumption
- self luminous screens (no need for backlight)
- ultra wide viewing (the entire screen is lit up and lighting is consistent even to the edges of the screen)

Do you know who in Eastman Kodak invented OLED?
