The Japanese phone market has been left wanting for a Sony Ericsson music phone. Thus, SE is about to release the W42S that supports the Japanese KDDI network.
The phone features a slider design with 1GB of internal storage. The W42S memory can be expanded to a whopping 4GB bringing the total GB output to 5 gigs worth of data and music. What also sets the phone apart is the bottom jog dial contraption that allows you to play music, adjust the volume and hang your phone from your neck providing easy access to music playback features.
A Mobile Music Enhanced chipset is being used in the phone. The chipset MSM6550 has a lower power consumption compare to other music decoder. Need to store more music files, a 1GB internal memory is available built in. You can transfer the music files from your pc to the phone via USB cradle and SonicStage software. The music player support music format like ATRAC3plus, ATRAC3, WAV, MP3, WMA and AAC.

For everyone else: neither of these phones works anywhere but Japan. They are coded to AU and will not accept an international SIM (My Japanese roommate tried when he went to the US).

Have you tried a turbo x-sim? this i what they use when you can’t unlock a phone. Costs around 500 pesos only in the Phils. Maybe you could try it. Hope i have helped you.
My Sony Ericsson W42s locked with T-Mobile,UK while i bought this mobile. Later i purchased the unlock code from http://www.onlinegsmunlock.com/ then unlocked my mobile. Now my mobile works good.
