Don’t mistake this for Nikon’s DSLR! Chinese manufacturer TORQUE has released the D90, a dual SIM / dual Standby mobile phone. It comes with FM Radio, a 1.3MP camera, GPRS, MMS, microSD card, Bluetooth with A2DP support.

For an affordable mobile phone, the D90 is elegant to the touch and light. A small note — when phone manufacturers say that a phone is “dual SIM” enabled, you need to check if it is also dual standby enabled. This simply means that despite being a dual SIM phone, the other SIM is active while the current SIM is processing information. For instance, if you’re in the middle of a call with line A, your secondary line should still be able to receive SMS in the background while you’re talking. A small thing, but that defines the fine line between good and bad dual SIM phones.

Ed Neal, Managing Director of Geodesa Limited, who distributes GeoSIM says “We are really excited about this ‘market shaking product’ which is generating a great deal of interest from customers and resellers already. In the past, travellers roaming on a US network have had to pay for incoming calls on their mobiles and paid higher charges for making calls. From mid April, all that will change when we roll out GeoSIM Dual IMSI. The USA will effectively become part of Europe in terms of the GeoSIM call rates and free incoming calls. GeoSIM customers will be able to call and receive at the current rates available in Europe or the US no matter which side of the Atlantic they are on.” [source]

The long term plan? It seems like they’re bridging gaps between telco operators. Imagine one single call rate worldwide?

China made TORQUE phones are fast becoming a staple in the Asian market. Not only are they cheap, they’re pretty efficient as well. The D100 is TORQUE’s latest mobile handset that, not surprisingly, retails for less than $100. It’s most highlighted feature is its DUAL SIM network compatibility, thus making this the cheapest dual SIM phone in the market.

I’d really love to know how much dual SIM technology costs. As I was told, the most expensive component thus far for mobile phones is the WiFi chip that extends to about USD $10.00. With the phone retailing for about $70.00, I wonder how much fo that went to the dual SIM technology —- and if it is cheap, why isn’t the adoption of the two SIM phone not as rampant today?

The Glofiish DX900 is the midrange Windows Mobile device from the compay formerly known as ETEN. WHat makes this device unique is that it can accommodate two SIM cards, giving it a place in today’s stable of dual SIM enabled phones. There is an increasing number of mobiles running on two SIMs, but there aren’t that many running on Windows Mobile.

The DX900’s dual SIM feature is limited to one HSDPA (3.5G) connection and another SIM using EDGE. Kudos to Glofiish for coming out with a device that looks good and feels good in the hands. Oily palms are a bane for these types of devices but thus far, the DX900 and it’s little brother, the X610 comply with a very professional and elegant form factor.

The DX900 runs on Windows Mobile 6.1. It comes armed with a Samsung SC3 6400 processor running at 533MHz. The usual bells and whistles for connectivity come with this device including GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth. It also comes with a 2.8 inch 65k color TFT LCD screen. The DX900 comes with a humble 1.3MP camera with LED flash and a secondary VGA camera in front for calls.

Indonesian-based telco company Raztel has released the M880 a phone specifically meant to target the needs of Moslems around the globe.

What made Raztel M880 will become so special for Moslems is not only it supports Koran but it will also gives users the Tafsir of Koran and Hadith. However, users should learn to get accustomed with its 2,6 inch screen, which I think still too small to enjoy the ayahs of Koran.

Beside those features, Raztel M880 also has other Islamic built-in features such as Qibla indicator and world prayer times.

In terms of features, the M880 is highlighted by its dual SIM capability, 1.3MP camera, music and video playback.

Exactly a year ago, Samsung was working on releasing a mobile phone – the Samsung u740 that featured a dual-type keypad that exploited both numerical and QWERTY keypad in one sitting. A year later, Samsung took a different direction and offered dual SIMS in one phone, widgetized user interfaces, and even outsourcing a competitor’s operating system to come up with one of the most kick ass music mobile phones this year.

The Samsung D780 / D880 is the candybar dual SIM phone from Samsung. Features include an EDGE network with simultaneous SIM card reading, 2MP camera, Bluetooth, microSD expansion and two clocks.

This phone is more elegant compared to Verzio’s Duplii for the sole reason that it is designed by Samsung. Many other things make it better – such as a decent camera and a UI that works. Oh and compared to the Duplii, it doesn’t have an awkward keypad. The D780 forms part of Samsung’s new lineup of mobile phones for this 2008 quarter.

The WND Wind DUO 2200 takes the dual SIM concept a bit too far by having two phone faces back to back! They’re so distinct, that each phone has a built in 2MP digital camera on the front of each face. Two keypads, two screens, two SIMS and two cameras. I wonder where they insert the battery?

The phone is available in three sets of colors with silver as the first and a selection of black, gold and fuchsia as the color of the second phone. In a nutshell, this phone boasts a TRULY unique philosophy of really trying to dissect your life into two. The phone itself is decent enough to come triband capable with USB and Bluetooth connectivity. It can also play MP3’s. The two active screens may bring forth issues with battery life. We’ll see!
