So there&#8217;s Twitter &#8211; a social crowd control tool that by chance just grew into that sort of thing. 
Here&#8217;s something similar in effect but different in execution: FrontlineSMS is a desktop client that resembles a good mass SMS client that&#8217;s specifically meant for keeping a huge number of people up to date with activities.
