YOU and HTC

Everyone’s gone mainstream. Three years ago, you’d consider Windows Mobile users to be either geeks or early adopters. We’re not exactly sure if it was because of the iPhone, but smartphones have gotten sexier. It’s not just HTC that’s gone into the lifestyle route. BlackBerry has too, with the debut of the 8520, making push email more accessible to everyone.

HTC Imagio hates Windows Mobile

The highly anticipated HTC Imagio runs on Windows Mobile 6.5 but it isn’t apparent. It’s almost like HTC wants to completely get rid of it, hide it in some deep recess of their new smart phone. I think they’ve been enlightened by what they did with the Magic and the Hero, both coming from relatively open OS environments. So we’re back with Windows Mobile, but we’re seeing more of the Touch FLO UI that HTC’s been keen on developing.

The HTC Imagio runs on the run off the mill Qualcomm processor, VCAST mobile TV, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth … the works. These …read more

HTC Hero and Sense UI

HTC Hero and Sense UI

The Sense UI is brilliant. This is HTC’s gamechanger for the Android platform. It integrates well into Android by providing aesthetically pleasing multi-touch functions (rivals the iPhone) and brings in a new widget based paradigm for functions such as the contact list. The “People” function replaces the address book, and the Hero builds in plugins such as Facebook photos, Twitter accounts and even Google Maps to locate your home address. So if you take a look into John Doe’s profile, you get more than his email and contact number. Flickr, Twitter, Facebook feeds — you name it.

3 Observations on Smartphone Marketshare

Looking at this line chart showing smartphone market share and sales since the past year, you can see three things:
1. Nokia is still number one
Though sitting on your laurels is usually ill advise, the Finns may actually be the only ones capable of actually doing this. I remember a press conference back 3 years ago where one Nokia regional marketing guy mentioned that they ar the number one camera and MP3 manufacturer in the entire world, alluding to their phones as being multimedia device. This chart shows smartphone shares. But the same applies to other device types especially in the …read more

HTC Magic Android Implementation Varies?

Similar to how Nokia launched their Ovi Music store in Singapore, it seems like the new Android OS for the HTC Magic isn’t fully implemented in other parts of the world. In the Philippines for instance, the Android store isn’t even a built in on device application which you can launch.
There isn’t even talk about integration with your Google Applications. Nonetheless, the HTC Magic is a good piece of hardware that seems very promising in what it can deliver. Not sure about when HTC will deploy the rest of the features, or if this is something the telcos should …read more

HTC Touch Pro 2 Specs

Alongside the new HTC Diamond2, the Touch Pro2 is essentially HTC’s take on the Nokia N97 with a sliding keyboard and Windows Mobile 6.1 to boot. What it does have that the N97 doesn’t — a more sophisticated conference call solution allowing multiple users within conferences. The Touch Pro2 also comes with StraightTalk technology which is similar to Motorola’s Crystal Talk feature allowing noise cancellation during calls. The unit is essentially a portable conference call device, which you can prop upside down in the middle of the table for exactly that purpose.
Specs include:
Windows Mobile 6.1
Bluetooth
HSDPA connectivity
WiFi 802.11g
3.2MP camera
1500 mAh battery
microSD …read more
