iPod or Music Phone?

I was having a conversation with a colleague in the publishing industry. We were talking about how Nokia has been trying to promote efforts for their Comes with Music brand in different parts of the world. At one point we talked about how it seems that they want to go head to head against the iPod as the choice for music. Although it doesn’t seem evident, there is truth to this as in my hypotheses, people only keep one music library — and that would be kept in their iPod.

Sure, their phones may have music but if you can …read more

Click the City for iPhone retails for $3.99

if you’re from the Philippines, you should be familiar with Click the City: a one stop shop for movie schedules, restaurant reviews and shopping guides.. Well, if you got yourself an iPhone or iPod touch, they’re there as well.

The app makes its debut at USD$3.99, which IMHO is steep for something you can access on the Internet for free. Here’s to hoping that they do something about the price. Maybe this has something to do with the location-based-services of the iPhone. We’ll see.

OMG! Snood comes to the iPhone

My dad was addicted to Snood. So was I. It was like family bonding time before Facebook came with Farm Town. Snood was a classic. It was simple, elegant and highly addicting and its now on the iPhone / iPod touch. What makes Snood more interesting is its gearing towards social media: you can opt in for a 2 player mode that connects to Facebook to challenge your friends. There’s also a WiFi challenge mode. Overall, a brilliant time waster. I just bought it.

Stalk WoW Players with the Armory App

Ah, The Armory — a rather decent and useful little FREE (!!!) application for World of Warcraft players who need a quick reference guide to their gear, their friends’ gear, materials and vendors.

The Armory is a free application for the iPhone / iPod touch that allows you to login and view your avatar’s achievements, gear, talent tree, glyphs, and even detailed guild information for your character. Built into the application is a talent tree calculator, detailed loot from all the dungeons from the original WoW and two expansions, plus the ability to browse through all the other players of WoW …read more

Sims 3 “light” on your iPhone

Sims 3 “light” on your iPhone

I’ve joined the Sims 3 bandwagon, grabbing my copy off the shelf today for my desktop. Two days prior to the Sims 3 launch though, Sims 3 for the iPhone was released for a whopping USD $9.99 which is about half the price of the bigger game for your computer. What’s hot about the iPhone version is that it’s pretty much the real game, but revolves mostly around the Sim you create rather than the entire neighborhood. Go give it a try from the iTunes store. You won’t be disappointed! It’s Sims on the go!

Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone

Just in case you still have not found it, Yahoo! Messenger for the iPhone is on the list of top FREE applications in the iTunes store. I’ve been using it for days now and I must say that it is the best made-for-iPhone app that integrates YM – well, duh! It should! Finally, a decent version of Yahoo! Messenger that allows you to monitor multiple contacts in an easy to navigate UI.

The only thing I don’t like is the obvious disallowing of running on the iPhone’s background. If you exit the app to multitask, you will have to connect again.

GruvMe adds more multimedia options to iPod

GruvMe is interesting although in its current beta state there isn’t much to see. The site reminds me of a flash games site that caters to Nintendo Wii owners — since you can run flash on an Opera browser, technically speaking you can run these games on the Wii Browser. The same concept works for GruvMe, but they seem to be spinning the concept towards iPhone users who don’t want to be limited by the YouTube channel (odd?). GruvMe makes use of QuickTime to stream movies — both independent and blockbuster — as well as act as a social network …read more

iPhone apps generally are one night stands

A survey was published showing that with the tens of thousands of iPhone apps on the iTunes store, most of these apps come off as one night stands to people who download them.

The findings might surprise and disappoint developers, many of whom regard the iPhone’s application ecosystem as the first real opportunity to build a business around wireless applications. Prior to the launch of the easy-to-use App Store, few phone users ever downloaded new applications to their phones. That meant that the best way for developers to offer their applications was to convince operators to preload the applications on …read more

Keeper for iPhone has military grade encryption, self destruct mode

According to the guys at Callpod, there is currently no technology for the iPhone that provides full security and encryption when you sync data to the PC or Macintosh. Thus the need for Keeper, an app so secure, it comes with military grade encryption that keeps your passwords and synced data too secure to handle.
Currently, Keeper sells for $0.99 at the iTunes store and is compatible with both iPod touch and iPhone. You can download the application here.
Oh and we weren’t kidding about the self-destruct mode.
