Windows Mobile 6.5 puts on Armani

Built on Samsung’s OMNIA B7610, Windows Mobile 6.5 is now putting on Armani. There are three differences — the signature golden Armani finish, 8GB of memory built in, and a pivoting screen. The whole thing runs on OpenGL ES 2.0, which is a good catch. Essentially if you have $1,000 to plop into a new phone running on an underdog OS by today’s standards then fine, you might do well with getting this one. Otherwise, you can still settle for HTC or an ACER / Glofiish WinMo phone.

The Samsung OMNIA Pro is a side slider QWERTY device that runs on Windows Mobile 6.1. It is basically an enterprise-targeted device that goes head to head with the HTC Touch Pro 2 because of its really big AMOLED screen.
truth be told, I’m not too keen anymore with enterprise phones using Windows Mobile. If not for the corporate lock outs (I guess buying in bulk through cheap biddings really pay off), I’d prefer having my entire team running on Blackberries because at the very least, sending SMS would be a breeze.
That, or we wait till Windows Mobile 7.0.

Kinetic or flick scrolling used to be a fantastic piece of technology that the iPhone could boast. Now, even Nokia is bringing it into their phones. Before this, the Samsung OMNIA implemented kinetic scrolling to an extent. And alongside the N97, the Palm Pre is also making use of this technology. So it took the phone companies two years to play catch up.
What could be under Apple’s sleeve next?

The Samsung OMNIA is Samsung’s latest Windows Mobile lifestyle phone. It runs beneath a combination of Windows Mobile 6.1 and its own proprietary user interface. Samsung’s own UI is divided into a (1) main menu and apps list and (2) the famous drag + drop widgets layout we’ve seen in the SGH F480.
The OMNIA also includes the touch sensitive trackpad mouse navigation seen in its “SamsungBerry” counterparts allowing mouse functions to roll into the UI. This function can be turned off anytime, thus converting the trackpad into a 5 way directional pad. The OMNIA comes with a built in accelerometer …read more
