Why hello, Nokia. Another classic phone is on the display stands folks and this time it is the Nokia 6600i slide. The phone comes in Nokia’s classic conservative design with brushed steel and chrome complementing its set of features: 2.2 inch LED display, 5MP camera, and 3G connectivity support. The 6600i slide also makes use of “tap alerts” allowing you ro reject calls and snooze the phone by merely tapping the screen. Perfect if you’re in the middle of a meeting.

In the PH, the phone goes for PHP 13,950 which is roughly equivalent to USD $300.00.

Specs aside, I’m wondering if this device will appeal to people who have already beheld the N97. Yeah, they may be both QWERTY devices, but there are subtle differences especially in the way each phone handles mobile email.

Off the bat, it is really thin and considered to be a mid-range 3G unit with a 3.2 MP camera but we won’t be seeing this baby till Q4. I don’t know what’s extremely special about this device (I mean, what makes it worthy of a Q4 announcement?) except for its really thin form factor.

I’ve just been handed a China made TORQUE C100, their entry level phone that has both Bluetooth and a VGA camera. But the most peculiar feature of the C100 is that the battery it uses is exactly the same as th BL-5C batts from Nokia. Interesting.

The logic behind this is simple. In the entry level market, spare parts are always in demand, and knowing that the TORQUE C100’s battery is compatible with the BL-5C makes finding accessories easier. I don’t think there’s any exclusive use clause for the battery, none I’m aware of. [source]

They’re not ashamed to show it off, but of course there’s no branding in their marketing material. This is interesting. With Nokia dominating the market with their famous BL-5C’s, why not enable some form of compatibility? This is, I believe, forward thinking! Nokia’s happy because they sell more, and TORQUE gets consumer reassurance for quality.

The TORQUE C100 targets the fast moving entry level market.

According to some comments, these photos are fake because of the non-presence of the lock button and the Product Red logo is also different. Well, only three days till WWDC so at this point I really don’t care for spoilers. I’ll wait for the real thing!

A step up from the Nokia N95, the N96 comes packed with more memory that makes the N95 8GB look half as good. The N96 comes packed with 16GB of internal memory. One of the complaints from the N95 8GB was that the 3.5mm socket was located in an odd place. The new N96 fixes this problem by putting the socket on the top of the unit.
So what was the 8GB N95 all about? I guess it was a market filler for what was to come in the next few months. There was around more than half a year delay between the N95 and the N96 and in between that we must remember that Nokia revealed their new Ovi interface. The 8GB device was definitely a filler.
