It has downgraded the memory expansion to a bundled 256MB memory stick micro (M2 expandable to 1GB), changed the camera to a 640×480 VGA cam and sadly let go of the in-ear earphones and replaced it with high quality Sony earphones.

Aww shucks. Well depending on the price of the phone itself, I’d still try to grab a pair of in-ears because thats what makes these walkman phones different. Pfft. The primary reason why I was so attracted to the W-line of phones was due to the great package they offered. In the beginning, the price point of the phones were so high, but it made sense to do this because it included so many things – plus the in-ears.

Now however, I might be a bit cautious to get one unless I can get a good deal on some in-ears or I already have a pair. Because that’s what makes these Walkman phones so good. They’re just like any other SE phone. The difference is in the value added package of freebies.

I had a chance to grab a sneak peek into the upcoming line of phones from BenQ-Siemens. Codenamed Pandora (in Asia), this phone is a prototype version of the new company’s music phone. I’m quite pleased with the way the new company is churning out sensible phones with attractive designs.

The Pandora has two modes. When it is closed, it serves as a digital music player. In fact, from afar it even looks like a Creative Zen micro.

When opened (as in ‘opening Pandora’s Box’), the phone reveals a small keypad that’s still amazingly easy to use. The back of the phone [...]
Post from: Cellphone9

When opened (as in ‘opening Pandora’s Box’), the phone reveals a small keypad that’s still amazingly easy to use. The back of the phone houses a 1.3MP camera (!!!) as well as the external stereo speakers. Sadly I didn’t have the chance to try out the music playing capabilities.

So the word has been spreading about the new Sony Ericsson K800i, codenamed ‘Wilma’ which brings you to places far from the prehistoric connotations.
Phoneyworld has written a short preview about it and I’m going to build on to give my take. The first notable thing with it K800i is its physical elegance taking most of what SE learned from the K750i and sprinkled it with a slightly more curves.
Essentially the K800i is a combination of the K750i’ elegance, the W800i’s expansion and the W550i’s additional features which the former never had, like stereo speakers. The main addition to [...]
Post from: Cellphone9

Essentially the K800i is a combination of the K750i’ elegance, the W800i’s expansion and the W550i’s additional features which the former never had, like stereo speakers. The main addition to the K800i is the 3.2MP camera upping the bar of cameraphones for 2006. Yes, 3MP is now mainstream.

It has 3.2 megapixel camera, a superb QVGA display – thats 16 million colors with 240 x 320 resolution size of the display. The phone itself has 466 Mbs of memory on it, and if you think thats not enough then make sure you get one of those high end Memory stick Pro duo cards that this handset supports.

The K800i also has stereo speakers which serve as an excellent sound system. Besides the megapixel camera, the EDGE compliant phone also has a smaller camera for video conferencing. Bluetooth (latest version 2.0 supported). One may recall that aound the same time last year, we had heard and reported about the SonyEricsson Clara. Better known to us today by the name of the SonyEricsson K750i , that was and remains a best seller. The K800i is a very good successor to that handset and should easily set benchmarks.

The good pluses is that the Vidz is packed with an FM tuner and more importantly, a voice recorder. The version I got to tinker with was only capable of 512MB so if you do plan to get one, opt for the higher capacity ones.

Pros
I had no complaints with the music quality. You can change EQ settings on the fly with a dedicated button and some settings augment the bass to comfortable thumping level. Nice. It’s also Mac-mountable.

Cons
The JPEG display feature leaves me wanting for more. There really isn’t much you can do with the picture viewer, plus most huge images take some time to load.

If you are thinking of getting this player, then do so for the sake of music and for the voice recorder. The video-playing and picture viewing features are so-so.

Here’s a short 3GP video I took. Doesn’t really do justice given the cameraphone I used, but it’s still a worthwhile view. Check it out.
