Startling as it may sound, it is Nokia themselves who admit this. In an eye opening post, the Finns discuss their brand ambassador program and how these mavens are supposed to educate the 100,000++ Nokia employees.

So we’ve knocked on doors, delivered pitches, sent powerpoints out, e-mailed links to this blog, and still, when we turn someone new on to all that is the Ambassador program they say “Why the heck doesn’t anybody in Nokia KNOW about this??” Such is the life of a small team in the wide world of Nokia. It’s the end of the quarter and Nokia has released their figures for Q3. Not a lot of companies do so this publicly, with a link from their main blog page. In the figures are listed the acquisition of NAVTEQ, the mapping service which is now making waves for Nokia Maps. The bulk of their profit, not surprising, is for their products and services which include mobile phones and services. I still haven’t seen the advertising model come up for their Ovi sites but perhaps we should see a clearer road map come this Nokia World 2008 in Barcelona.

Nokia has announced the release of the 6220 Classic, a more streamlined and aesthetically toned down mobile that highlights two great features – built in Xenon flash on its 5MP Carl Zeiss enabled camera. If you were fans of the Nokia N82, this phone is more or less the same in terms of features sans WiFi. What sets it apart as well is the physical appearance. The Nokia 6220 Classic comes with HSDPA connectivity allowing you to access A-GPS and Nokia’s Share on Ovi site.
The Nokia 6220 Classic retails for roughly (SRP PHP 22,000.00) USD $500++.

With the new Facebook layout (are you liking it?) several apps developers have come up with Facebook 2.0 apps that don’t seem to be backward compatible with the “old” layout. One of these is the Share on Ovi application that embeds your public media timeline to Facebook. So what this means is that your friends can see new media you uploaded via Ovi (and ultimately your Nokia mobile phone).
Cool beans.

It’s no secret that Nokia announced its entry into the Web 2.0 Services with Ovi last August 2008. Around February of this year, Share on Ovi was launched, which is basically their competitor to Flickr. Share on Ovi allows you to upload photos, videos, audio, and documents and categorize them into channels.
That’s me – with my magnetic personality with butterflies, uploaded at the Singapore Zoo via Share on Ovi.

These channels subdivide your media into different categories but more importantly allow you to set passwords and privacy settings for each channel.

There doesn’t seem to be a limit to the number of media you can upload. Video uploading allows you to do 100MB of videos at a time and photo EXIF and geotagging data are also recorded, when turned on. By far, it seems to be a “Flickr killer” because it looks almost the same, with almost the same features, and is still on beta. There has been no official word on the release of the Share API to allow a developer community to create photos and videos though. Check it out – www.share.ovi.com and really, let’s see if this FREE service is going to give Flickr a run for their money.

Share on Ovi is only a part of the full Ovi experience but it is by far the easiest to understand and has been launched worldwide. Other services such as the Music Store are going to be making waves within the next few months. In Asia, the service has only been launched in Australia and Singapore.
