Since there’s a pretty significant contingent of PH based readers, I’d like to share with you one really cool promo. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic was prelauched today and Nokia is reserving 58 units for a preorder price of P20,000 which is roughly equivalent to USD $400.00
Live in the Philippines? Have you been eyeing the Nokia 5800? All you need to do is sign up at the launch page and reserve your unit now! Now that’s a great Christmas deal!

You’ve seen it in The Dark Knight and last year we saw a glimpse – wait, let me correct that. We saw the philosophy behind Nokia’s direction to head towards an iPhone like user interface. Today, in July 2008, we’ve so far seen Nokia’s S60 platform push for a new user interface with the N81, N82 and the N78 via rotating categories and accelerometer functions.
After that, Nokia made waves with the N78’s “scroll wheel” imitation which works rather fine, except that there is no wheel, but a touch sensitive directional pad that serves as a 4-way D Pad and a wheel at the same time.

This time, Nokia is pushing the technology even further by introducing a device that’s part Communicator, part phone and part handheld device. There’s so much to look forward to and it isn’t really about the specs. What I’m really interested to see is how they innovate S60 to compete with the iPhone’s 2.0 platform. Add Palm’s new 2.0 OS in the works and we’re up for pretty interesting times.

Here are the specs of the Nokia 5800:

    * A 640 x 360 (16:9) 3.2″ 16-million color display
* the Symbian S60 “5th Edition” OS
* An accelerometer for auto screen rotation
* A 3 megapixel camera with Carl-Zeiss lens dual LED flash
* some GPS, WiFi (b/g), and Bluetooth 2.0
* a 3.5mm jack for audio and video output (includes TV-out!)
* 140MB of internal memory
* a microSD that accepts up to 8GB (SDHC)
* 1320mAh of battery power via the Nokia BL-5J. W00t!
* a length of 115mm, width of 52mm, thickness of 14.55mm, and a weight of 104 grams
