Nicholas Negroponte’s $100.00 notebook computer

This one I just had to post because it almost sent my tears rolling. Countries that have been left behind by the technology handicap will be able to catch up with the $100.00 laptop. Just to give you an idea how poor is poor, several Asian countries have a disparity of people (~ 90% of total population) living below the hamburger index (roughly US $1.00 / day). Most definitely, education, technology and entertainment are put on the backseat to make way for just surviving the day.
This project by MIT’s Nicholas Negroponte is impressive. Bringing technology down to the masses is slowly going into phase two. Phase one was making mobile phones available for everyone. Thanks to competitive telco services and phones that are getting cheaper by the month (and more niched toward developing nations), those who cannot afford will soon (relatively) be able to enjoy gadget lust.
This pipe dream is slowly coming to reality – current technological advances are all falling into place to make this $100 laptop into something tangible. I’m sure that this project will be of great help to a lot of people and if only tech company gives back a portion of their huge income for this project, we may yet see this in worthwhile project on a global scale in a couple of month’s time.
Thanks Bernie!

Bring it to American children or anybody in america. Why can’t anyone be loyal to America first. When you solve these same problems in america then it would be noble to move on to other countries. Or do both at the same time. Charge the same ev ery where and get it out there. Many people in america don’t use computers because they are not aware. It is ignorance to what the power of technology really is and they are going to be left behind. I am not talking about kids who are caught up in the silly music download to phones as well as adults. Im talking about people who can’t afford cell phones.
Futhermore please update the info to present. Nobody has left any comments because the is a 2005 message and it is now 2007.
i can help deliver free in airplane in foreign countries
I agree with Ricky Lee. Why can’t we do this in America, we have people here that are starving and homeless, but we all want to run to another country to try and make things better. Our parents here need to take some responsibility first though and get off their lazy butts and teach by example. (If the shoe fits wear it).
what are its specifications?
I need to know its specifications!!>.
