The Philippines has been hit by the recent Typhoon Ondoy, twice the amount of rainfall than hurricane Katrina. Over 80% of the Metro Manila had been submerged in water. Since Sunday, numerous companies and NGO’s and volunteers have been helping with relief goods. Nokia has been active in the relief efforts by sending out over 150 phones to the affected areas and rescue centers so that victims and volunteers can use them to communicate with loved ones. Nokia Philippines has also released charging stations usually found in malls to help keep the juice flowing in affected areas that have lost …read more
iTwinge adds physical keyboard to iPhone

For $29.00 you can turn your iPhone into an iconic Sony Ericsson P900. Well not really. But the principle is sorta similar. The iTwinge is a keypad attachment for the iPhone allowing you to use physical hardware buttons in the stead of a technologically superior touch screen. The iTwinge feeds off the battery from your iPhone, attaching itself to the charger’s end. The trade off is obvious: you get half the real estate and impaired functionality in the place of accurate typing.
I just hope they didn’t use an iTwinge to write the copy on the product page. They have spelling …read more
The Cable Wars: Distress with Wires

See the photo above? Those are 1/5 of all my cables.
This might sound like a light topic, but truth be told it isn’t. With people changing phones every four months, buying new devices whenever a sale comes, and racking up new wires and cables, it is becoming increasingly difficult to tell accessories apart:
The most distressing thing are miniUSB chargers that really don’t have a standard miniUSB tip. Case in point would be the BlackBerry, that seems, at first sight, to have a standard USB charging end, but in reality, the tip is much wider than a regular USB cable.
These cable …read more
Put “Snake” inside Dive Computers

Dive watch manufacturers can learn a thing or two from cellphone manufacturers. Add games into your dive watches.
The thought came to me whilst doing a 2 day wreck dive trip and the decompression stops and safety stops became a chore at some point. Looking into my dive computer, I’d fiddle around aimlessly (sad because it only had 2 buttons), and the underwater point and shoot camera I had brought would be out of battery. So there I was stuck in the mooring line for several minutes to pay the decompression price.
Why not put games inside these computers? I mean …read more

This October, Duracell will be shipping their new “myGrid” wireless charger for an assortment of devices including compatibility for Nokia phones, BlackBerry, Motorola and Apple iPod touch / iPhone. There are two accessories needed for charging to occur and that’s either through the Power Sleeve or the Power Clip. The difference between the two lies mostly on the compatible devices that fit each — the iPods go with the sleeve as they don’t hav miniUSB ports which are used by the Power Clip.
“myGrid” can charge up to four devices at any given time and claims to be as fast as …read more
Do you record your runs on your mobile?

As the Nike+ iPod kit became a staple among running circles, it became apparent that a market was to be made out of accelerometer and a piece of software that could measure your giant strides.
I’ve tried a couple of dedicated hardware for running such as the Nike+ iPod kits and the solo running watch pictured above, but lately I’ve come across friends who have ditched the iPod solution and have gone running with their phones. Apart from having your phone nearby (and thus becoming distracted from your workout), the benefit of running with your phone is precisely the …read more
Oddest — or most Awesome Phone Accessories

From a wind bell that notifies you of messages to a cigarette lighter built into a mobile phone — to cigarettes themselves, it’s a treat to see some of the crazier mobile phone accessories that we have available around the world.
There’s a big bag of wonderment that opens up when I see stuff like this made available but as technology improves through time, I get less and less impressed.
But yeah, the wind chime thing is really neat!

FreeLoader Solar Charger at USD $49.99

Take a loot at this photo. Makes me wonder how it actually works. Where’s that cable connecting to the iPhone to the freeLoader coming from? Ah well. Matters not. It’s a cool piece of solar power technology. The FreeLoader is a portable solar charger that allows you to charge your gadgets when you’re away from the nearest wall socket.
The device works as a pure solar power charger via its solar panels or you can also charge the battery by simply plugging it into a USB port allowing you to use it immediately after a quick charge. Of course, it takes …read more
Skullcandy Hesh Headphones Review

Perhaps the best thing about Skullcandy’s packaging is that the blisterpack wrap can easily be removed by yanking open both sides. Unlike other types of blister packaging which require vigorous feats with your hands and maybe a cutter or scissors, this one was easily opened within 20 seconds. For that alone, I give it two thumbs up!
But seriously, Skullcandy headphones deliver the promise of being all candy around your head. I’ve heard reviews saying that in general, the headphones have very good bass and mid levels, and so-so in the highs. I found this to be true after donning the …read more
