Still, there’s no price on being friendly to the environment, right?  Unfortunately, it takes a whole 20 hours outside/40 hours indoors of sun exposure to get this bad baby up to full charge. 

The one thing that irks me about my iPod is that I can’t put some batteries into it to get it to work, I’ve got to wait for it to charge and I think that having to wait for my dock to charge would drive me nuts and I’m really environmentally-conscious.  Apparently, Gizmodo says that you can buy a regular power adapter for the Reverb so that could work, I guess.

The Reverb will be released in April, 2010 at a retail price of $2,229.

The world’s biggest mobile phone maker warns that users could get an electrical shock from using the chargers and promises to replace them for free.

If you are trying to determine whether you might be affected by the recall, here is some information:

• The recall is not in effect for chargers sold in China, Britain, Brazil and Argentina.
• The potentially dangers models are the AC-3E and AC-3U, manufactured between June 15, 2009 and August 9, 2009 and the AC-4U model, manufactured between April 13, 2009 and October 25, 2009.
• If you live in Europe, chances are you bought an AC-3E charger whereas the two other models were sold in North and Latin America. 
• All three models were manufactured by subcontractor BYD.

Consumers can also contact Nokia directly for more information.

The Philippines has been hit by the recent Typhoon Ondoy, twice the amount of rainfall than hurricane Katrina. Over 80% of the Metro Manila had been submerged in water. Since Sunday, numerous companies and NGO’s and volunteers have been helping with relief goods. Nokia has been active in the relief efforts by sending out over 150 phones to the affected areas and rescue centers so that victims and volunteers can use them to communicate with loved ones. Nokia Philippines has also released charging stations usually found in malls to help keep the juice flowing in affected areas that have lost power.

This might sound like a light topic, but truth be told it isn’t. With people changing phones every four months, buying new devices whenever a sale comes, and racking up new wires and cables, it is becoming increasingly difficult to tell accessories apart:

The most distressing thing are miniUSB chargers that really don’t have a standard miniUSB tip. Case in point would be the BlackBerry, that seems, at first sight, to have a standard USB charging end, but in reality, the tip is much wider than a regular USB cable.

These cable manufacturers — they should invest a little more in putting in some easy to read labels on the wiring. Lumix does this — their camera chargers have a white strip stuck around the cable saying it’s for a Panasonic camera.

Nokia — don’t get me started. As much as I love their phones, they have different types of chargers per set of phones. Old chargers (fatter round ends) won’t work on the newer ones (smaller tips).

Can all cables come with their own velcro strip? It’s already past the year 2000 and still some manufacturers don’t take this into consideration.

Why do all of these cables have to be in black?! For Pete’s sake, only Apple (and now, HTC) have chargers that have different colors other than black.

The thought came to me whilst doing a 2 day wreck dive trip and the decompression stops and safety stops became a chore at some point. Looking into my dive computer, I’d fiddle around aimlessly (sad because it only had 2 buttons), and the underwater point and shoot camera I had brought would be out of battery. So there I was stuck in the mooring line for several minutes to pay the decompression price.

Why not put games inside these computers? I mean if they work for mobile phones, why not dive watches to help pass the time. A good game of snake would be much appreciated!

I’m not aware of any brands that actually have built in games into their computers.

This October, Duracell will be shipping their new “myGrid” wireless charger for an assortment of devices including compatibility for Nokia phones, BlackBerry, Motorola and Apple iPod touch / iPhone. There are two accessories needed for charging to occur and that’s either through the Power Sleeve or the Power Clip. The difference between the two lies mostly on the compatible devices that fit each — the iPods go with the sleeve as they don’t hav miniUSB ports which are used by the Power Clip.

“myGrid” can charge up to four devices at any given time and claims to be as fast as any regular USB charger. If you think about it, it may still be more efficient to charge multiple devices using an extension bracket but if you have any of these brands, then might as well, right?

I’ve tried a couple of dedicated hardware for running such as the Nike+ iPod kits and the solo running watch pictured above, but lately I’ve come across friends who have ditched the iPod solution and have gone running with their phones. Apart from having your phone nearby (and thus becoming distracted from your workout), the benefit of running with your phone is precisely the convenience of having all your information in one device. If you’re running a Nokia, you probably have the Sport Tracker app installed. Other brands such as LG and Sony Ericsson have their own proprietary running applications. So yeah, if your phone supports Java, Symbian, or Windows Mobile, there’s always an app ready for you.

I’ve found mixed reactions though with accelerometer-based recordings and AGPS. Can anyone share which is more accurate based on their experience? For me, I prefer the consistency of an accelerometer.

From a wind bell that notifies you of messages to a cigarette lighter built into a mobile phone — to cigarettes themselves, it’s a treat to see some of the crazier mobile phone accessories that we have available around the world.

There’s a big bag of wonderment that opens up when I see stuff like this made available but as technology improves through time, I get less and less impressed.

But yeah, the wind chime thing is really neat!
