iPhone 3Gs announced: “S” for “Speed”
June 8, 2009 by Jayvee Fernandez

OK, as expected, Apple unveiled their new iPhone upgrade, the 3Gs which is essentially the same iPhone with a few new surprises. None of these are actually groundbreaking when taken apart, but they still make for a welcome upgrade. 4x speed increase for most apps, autofocus 3MP camera, 30 fps video recording, support for Nike+ running (the iPod touch had this one so this upgrade is welcome, but still late for the iPhone). There are also voice activated commands for launching apps and controlling your music. There’s also a data speed bump up to 7.12MBPS.
Price? Well $199 for 16GB. $299 for 32GB. Coming this June 18th.

Repeat charges for iPhone 3 beta downloads

If you’re planning on getting the beta for iPhone 3.0, we suggest not taking the risk as there are reports of you having to re-purchase applications that were downloaded before, thus having to pay for them all over again. We’re sure Apple will refund you through the store when 3.0 comes out, but I persoanlly would rather not take the risk.

Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone

Just in case you still have not found it, Yahoo! Messenger for the iPhone is on the list of top FREE applications in the iTunes store. I’ve been using it for days now and I must say that it is the best made-for-iPhone app that integrates YM - well, duh! It should! Finally, a decent version of Yahoo! Messenger that allows you to monitor multiple contacts in an easy to navigate UI.

The only thing I don’t like is the obvious disallowing of running on the iPhone’s background. If you exit the app to multitask, you will have to connect again.

Nine Year Old Writes iPhone apps for his siblings

When I was nine I was too busy with my GI Joe’s and Sky Commanders. But Lim Ding Wen, 9 from China spends his time writing applications to show his brotherly love for his siblings.
Lim, who is in fourth grade, writes applications for Apple’s popular iPhone. His latest, a painting program called Doodle Kids, has been downloaded over 4,000 times from Apple’s iTunes store in two weeks, the New Paper reported on Thursday.[source]
Like father, like son - his father also writes iPhone apps and has a “friendly competition” with his son to see who has the more downloaded apps for the week.

First come, first served! Here’s a free code for ShiveringKittens: a Tetris-like game for the iPhone / iPod touch where you’re supposed to align three or more kittens to remove them from the array of falling ice blocks. Seems simple enough, just like this contest — GO CRAZY WITH IT!
The promo code is: L9APT9YKY9WY
I only have one copy so let’s see who gets to input this first. To apply the code, log into the US iTunes store and click on Redeem Code on the Quick Links area on the right.
FM Radio on your iPhone: Why not?

Oh here’s a semi-classic. If you’ve been so bugged with not having an FM radio on your iPhone, this application allows you to stream radio over from AOL Radio.
Sadly this is only available in the US iTunes store for obvious reasons since it uses AOL Radio.
