It’s a Cybershot that just happens to have a phone bundled with it. With the way consumer cameras are taking touch screen adaptation rather seriously, so does Sony Ericsson. The new Sony Ericsson C902 brings touch screen controls for easy and quick navigation. Other specs include a 5MP camera, Bluetooth, HSDPA, 160MB of internal memory + memory expansion up to 8GB.

Sony Ericsson is furthering their Cybershot line of camera phones with a bumped up megapixel count and Xenon flash. I swear by Xenon flash – it’s terrific for night shots and captures good quality images for a camera phone. The Sony Ericsson C905 comes with a 8.1MP camera, auto focus, Best Pic feature (takes many consecutive shots and you choose the best), 160MB of internal memory, memory card expansion, HSDPA, and yeah, Xenon flash!

Nothing remarkably fantastic about this phone. Sony Ericsson has been on the aesthetic binge lately, releasing a stable of great looking mid end phones. Here’s one of them. The F305 comes with Bluetooth, 10MB internal memory, M2 memory expansion, a 2MP camera, EDGE connectivity, and an accelerometer for games. The accelerometer function is perhaps the highlight of this mobile phone, which isn’t much. But for some reason, I can’t really go about hating this unit because it was built to do what it was supposed to do, and Sony Ericsson has been known to deliver well in its mid range market.

The Motorola RIZR Z10 has been talked about on the Internet for quite some time now. Here are some photos of the unit I took in a briefing. The most peculiar thing about the phone is its unique design as you can see from the photos. The slider-candybar style allows half of the phone to bend to fit the contour of your face.

The RIZR is set to come out in Asia in the coming 2 to 3 months. I must reiterate that the real estate of the Z10, though unique is really more for the coolness factor. It’s also what makes the phone stand out as something more than a regular entry level phone. The RIZR Z10 handles video at 30 fps at QVGA MPEG4 format. Meant to be all video, you can edit your videos on the fly using the basic built in video editing software.

The phone comes with 90MB of user available memory but the expansion slot can be pushed up to 32GB of data.

Personally, the compelling factor of the Z10 is its unique shape. When taking videos, you must be able to shoot at a small tilt because, as you already know, the real estate bends when the slider is fully pulled out.

First it was the accelerometer. Now it’s Xenon powered flash.

Nokia was probably the first in the Asian region to release a Xenon flash equipped camera phone with the Nokia N82. Now Sony Ericsson as well as Samsung have released their own versions of Xenon flash enabled phones as well. The demand for Xenon flash came about from consumers who take tons of night shots. Since mobile phone cameras have been in the megapixel war for the longest time, flash considerations were not really addressed. It isn’t about megapixels anymore as you don’t blow up photos taken from phones to bond paper size prints. Night photos were given more thought – and thus, Xenon flash.

Because the duration of the flash that is emitted by a xenon flash tube can be accurately controlled, and due to the high intensity of the light, xenon flash lamps are most commonly used as photographic strobe lights. Xenon flashlamps are also used in the technique of very high speed or “stop-motion” photography, which was pioneered by Harold Edgerton in the 1930s. [Xenon Flash]

The Sony Ericsson K800i has Xenon flash, 3MP sensor and burst mode! The Samsung G800, which will be officially launched in parts of Asia this week also has the same Xenon flash technology and 5MP.

PanoMan is the craziest photo stitch application for the S60. It comes built into the latter releases of Nseries phones such as the Nokia N82. Costing about USD $29. After running PanoMan, all you need to do is press the start button and move your cellphone clockwise to generate a 360 degree image around you.

The image is generated live as well so you don’t need to do guesswork as to what you’ve already taken. Panoramic images taken by PanoMan are around 1MB in size which you can easily resize.

Last December, I had written about how I accepted the role to become a Nokia Ambassador for the duration of four months. All the details about it are written here so that I don’t need to expound on this further. Fact of the matter is that one of the primary – if not the only function of an ambassador is to populate a website called Nokia Soul of the Night. There was no money involved and the role of the ambassador is actually very lax as compared to say, a product endorser (brand ambassador is not equal to brand endorser).

I had initially decided to keep all thoughts of my ambassadorship in my personal blog but I’m making an exception for this one post as it is relatively breaking news.

What it basically is: Soul of the Night is a website that allows anybody to upload photos and tag them according to location in several countries in Asia including the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. The site is meant to promote the “soul” of the night by promoting the night life in these countries. It is also a way of showing off the Nokia N82’s Xenon flash capabilities – the camera is supposed to take really good night shots thanks to the flash – and yeah, it delivers.

I do wish though that aside from tags and labels, the site developers should have included a comments section which in turn promotes community building. Comments truly help follow through the community building effort because it is what really promotes conversation in the photos people upload. Now that it is open to the public, I assume that anyone can register and upload their own night shots. I tried uploading shots not taken at night and they were screened after a few days.

A few days ago I released a survey on your cellphone wish list for the holidays. As of today, December 13 2007 we have had 60 votes divided among 8 phones. The Apple iPhone is ranked at number one followed by – now this is a surprise – a three way tie with the Nokia N82, Sony Ericsson P990i, and the BlackBerry Pearl. We also have significant votes for the HTC Touch. Interesting to note are the phones with the three way tie – these are all enterprise phones for the more “mature” consumer.

Does that say something about this blog’s readers? Hehe. I’ll be reporting the poll update regularly till the holiday comes and see if there are changes. Vote away!

Nowadays, a touch screen phone like the LG Viewty would necessitate certain features like wireless Internet. Unfortunately the nice big screen of this Viewty KU990 model is laid to waste as it doesn’t support WiFi.

Oh no. Did I just put the phone down in the first paragraph? Well, in fairness to aesthetics, LG has always been innovative with its real estate design, as seen with the LG Chocolate. The LG Viewty is supposed to be a phone that does not compete with such models like the iPhone or Nokia N series. It seems to be a fashion phone, primarily, with some neat features like photo editing and YouTube video viewing. It also has a nice 5MP camera. Xenon flash seems to be the new trend with camera phones as this is the same thing equipped on the Nokia N82. It’s so good, CNET has this to say:

Many camera phones take good pictures but don’t look that great themselves — fortunately the LG KU990 Viewty is not an ugly camera phone. In fact, we can go so far as to say it’s one of the best-looking camera phones we’ve seen so far. [CNET Review]

From the reviews online, the Viewty seems to be a good camera phone – if that’s all you’re looking for. I really suggest they improve on this model further by adding other productivity features such as wireless Internet and BlackBerry email. That would kill.
