Just kidding. Car + phone technologies have always been fascinating. Ever since the “car phone” (yeah this one) evolved into the BLuetooth speaker thingee you hang over your visor to receive calls, a company has now done the next big step.

“Although playback of text messages using text-to-speech applications is available in certain vehicle models, outbound texting to date has been limited only to pre-scripted messages,” said Dr. Tom Schalk, ATX vice president of voice technology. “This service is unique in the market because it allows drivers to create and send completely customized text messages exclusively by voice, while on the go.”

With voice activated commands as common (and perfected!) in several phones, why not apply this technology to cars themselves. You can pair your car with your phone to send SMS. The whole process is voice activated and you won’t even need to look down onto your mobile. No more present messages. The platform is seamless and liquid.

Karaoke on your mobile phone idea

When i was a lot younger, I had a teacher who always carried a tape deck with minus one songs at the back of his car. He was a good singer and he would tell me that the deck would be a “precaution” just in case people would ask him to sing at parties. Apparently he got these requests often, which led him to take on this peculiar set up.

While I was in Indonesia last week, our guide had a Nokia E90 with him. It was preinstalled with several hits from the 70’s, but all in minus one format. This was his portable karaoke in case he would be asked to sing.

Ah, technology.

Sony XPLOD Car Audio

The Sony mobile division has released their entire 2006 lineup for the XPLOD in-car audio set up. What makes the XPLOD head units really neat is the fact that you can connect any digital music player like an iPod, a SE Walkman phone or a Sony Network Music Player into the built-in audio jack. I was lucky enough to have seen the entire product line in a recent press event – Sony says they are serious about car audio and wanted everyone to see what was in store for 2006.

Some of the higher model XPLOD head units come with what is known as the Gigastick, which is basically a 1GB flash memory stick which can store music and can even be removed to connect to your audio setup at home.

The most affordable of the bunch comes at a whopping $400.00 and that doesn’t even come with an audio-in solution for your music player.
