However, a 30-year study out of Scandinavia argues that there is no link between the two. Apparently, brain tumors did not become any more common with the increased use of cell phones during the 90s. 

A team at the Danish Cancer Society looked at the “annual incidence rates of two types of brain tumors – glioma and meningioma – among adults aged 20 to 79 from Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden from 1974 to 2003.”  

They did notice, though, that there has been a gradual increase in brain tumors but the trend began in 1974 which is well before cell phones were around.

Of course, this is just one study so I would be interested to see the results of other long-term studies before I develop a strong opinion.

Verizon is set to launch its new ‘Razzle’ on October 6. Though it is pretty much a low end unit, the Razzle appeals because of its QWERTY keypad that can twist out to unveil a nice speaker system. Not sure on the actual practicality of this — moving parts really suck ass but it nonetheless makes a great conversation piece. The Razzle is based on the 8030 without Verizon’s branding. The phone comes with GPS and a 1.3MP camera. This will be available on plan at USD $69.00.

Samsung’s Pixon line is pretty interesting. The main highlight, apart from the touch screen is the good quality camera. So today, Samsung has upped the bar with the new W880 and what makes this camera kick ass is its 3x optical zoom. The back of the phone protrudes the lens like a regular camera. It allows for HD recording, HSDPA data, WiFi, Bluetooth, microSD and mobile TV. A pretty hefty pack for a phone that highlights its camera, don’t you think?

How i wish the Philippines could properly implement the Comes with Music program of Nokia. In Singapore, buying a Nokia phone allows you to enjoy one full year of free music downloads. In the Philippines, w cannot implement such a scheme because of (1) the record labels and (2) there’s a rule that value added services should go through a company that is owned by a Filipino. Which means Nokia may have to go through a third party service provider or through a telco, which completely defeats the purpose of having the Ovi store and the Comes with Music freebies. Why can’t it be simpler? Oh the prohibitions of such things make everything so complicated.

Le sigh.

Here’s a size comparison between the Modu and the Nokai E71. I was able to acquire the not-so-new Modu unit from Globe telecommunications as they intend to launch this in the Philippines for only P7,999.00. The Modu is a “modular phone” which means that the other features come to life when you attach the small device to several modules such as casings, desk MP3 players, etc. By itself, the Modu is already a full functioning phone, allowing you to make calls and load up music.

I still need to do actual real world tests for the practicality of having a phone like this, but thus far it does not hurt to have a second phone that can turn into a fantastic conversation piece.

I’m surprised that not a lot of people know how to do this. And you can’t blame them either, for third party sync tools have always been in place such as the Apple-Nokia iSync plugins and the Missing Sync conduits for Macintosh. Well, this is really a friendly reminder to all Nokia users that you can actually sync your contacts and calendar over the air via 3G or WiFi to the Share on Ovi service. They both look the same. Heck, the specs look almost the same. So here are the minute differences between the two:

Both have DUAL SIM / standby functions. The D90 has a bigger screen, at 1.8 inches, whereas the D80 comes with a 1.5 inch screen. Both come with FM Radio functions. The D80 does not have a camera. Instead it comes with 1,000 phonebook capacity and MP4 capabilities. The D80 also comes with a USB memory dock for the microSD card.

Don’t mistake this for Nikon’s DSLR! Chinese manufacturer TORQUE has released the D90, a dual SIM / dual Standby mobile phone. It comes with FM Radio, a 1.3MP camera, GPRS, MMS, microSD card, Bluetooth with A2DP support.

For an affordable mobile phone, the D90 is elegant to the touch and light. A small note — when phone manufacturers say that a phone is “dual SIM” enabled, you need to check if it is also dual standby enabled. This simply means that despite being a dual SIM phone, the other SIM is active while the current SIM is processing information. For instance, if you’re in the middle of a call with line A, your secondary line should still be able to receive SMS in the background while you’re talking. A small thing, but that defines the fine line between good and bad dual SIM phones.

It could be because of apps that batch upload iPhoto downloads onto Flickr, or really, as compared to other camera phones, Apple’s seems to be the friendliest or rather, the most accessible smartphone with a camera. Take a look at the chart — despite Nokia making so much more phones than Apple, the iPhone wins in the usability category as it dominates Nokia by a mile!
