EDIT: My bad, apparently the contest is only open to members of the media around Asia and not the general public. Interesting though. I guess this gives the press more chances of winning that N81!

Open to a number of countries in Asia, including Autralia, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Vietnam, Nokia Mission N-Gage is a flash based finders keepers game where you will need to scroll through an arcade and find a silhoutte of various phones. With the iPhone SDK out, the talk of the developer community and technology maves is that the iPhone will become the next big gaming device. Although there are current limitations to the way applications cannot run in the background (meaning that the phone will always be a phone first, and everything else later), games will demand the full user attention.
What makes the iPhone big is that it was the gaming machine that Apple thought it never had – in the same way we’re saying Sony has made the cheapest Blu-ray player in the PS3 and Nokia being the biggest …read more

Perhaps one of the most surprising and enlightening announcements today from the Go Play event was the rebranding of the Nokia N-Gage from a hardware product to a service. The once hardware-centric brand is now a software and service that will be available throughout the Nokia phone platform. What this means is that anyone will be able to experience gaming across the board on all Nokia phones via download from the PC or over the air (OTA) direct download to almost any Nokia phone.

That’s how things should be done – mobile phones need some retro loving. They have a footprint small enough to convert to java plus the nostalgia of such games reach mobile phone owners who have purchasing power. Yup, we’re talking about retro gamers who were discovering gaming in the early 90’s.
Take a look at Sonic 2 for the Panasonic P902iS cellphone.

One of the simplest and funniest Java games I’ve tried out is Fats the Pig. Fats is an obese pig who is trying to lose weight. To control fats, all you need to do is press onto your phone’s joystick to help hi mgain momentum in his current exercise. It’s really fun, simple, and will definitely give your thumb a workout.
You can check the game out here. The game is available for download for various java supported phones. It costs a measely $3.99.

Dunno how well this is going to do the world in the overall design of things, but a Paris Hilton mobile phone game seems to be the thing the world needs now. Yes friends – the cure for Cancer, the fight against terrorism and solving world hunger – these are just more important things to do like create a series of “exciting” (*sheepish grin*) mobile phone games starring everyone’s favorite Hilton.
I’m just as curious as you to find out what type of games will be released by developer Gameloft. I have …read more
