From afar, I had thought the Jet to be a S60 based phone because of the way the user interface looks, hailing from the previous OMNIA HD prototype I previewed many weeks ago.

Damn, I think I’m losing my touch — I don’t check the specs sheet in the same way that I don’t read the instructions. Could have fooled me, and Samsung did. The Samsung Jet runs on Windows Mobile heavily skinned, like their predecessors to resemble something more friendly (yeah, Windows Mobile does look too geeky, even in version 6.5).

In terms of real estate appeal the Jet eyes a beautiful little menu button that’s carved into an elegant three sided pyramid. The Jet also features standard connections — USB charging and 3.5mm jack for audio (whopee!).

Summarizing the experience, I’d say that the Samsung Jet is a Windows Mobile device that feels like a Nokia S60 based unit. It does have that reminiscent lag from WinMo but at the same time, the simplicity (or familiarity?) of the S60 platform is ever present, alongside Samsung’s widget interface.

The 8GB version retails for about PHP 29,000 which is roughly equivalent to 600USD (still expensive because of the Windows Mobile platform!). There is also a 16GB version that goes for about PHP 34,000.

The Samsung Pixon12 promises to be a fantastic camera phone for two reasons — 28mm wide angle lens and Xenon flash. When Samsung released the Pixon last year, I was impressed by its lightweight estate and decent camera. Samsung took it a step higher not really because of the megapixel count or the autotracking focus — but the damn good flash that goes side by side wide shooting angles allowing you to capture more. I guess the in thing today are wide lenses for camera phones and Samsung is no stranger to this as they’ve been rolling out 28mm lenses onto their digicam lines.

Today the Samsung S9110 is really more of a statement that we’ll be seeing more of these watches that double as phones in the future. Seems like a pretty standard package to communicate — voice commands are in, but I’m not quite sure if this has a Bluetooth headset package. Well, for USD 650 if you have money to burn you can grab this if you’re in the bad habit of leaving your phone behind.

The Samsung OMNIA Pro is a side slider QWERTY device that runs on Windows Mobile 6.1. It is basically an enterprise-targeted device that goes head to head with the HTC Touch Pro 2 because of its really big AMOLED screen.

truth be told, I’m not too keen anymore with enterprise phones using Windows Mobile. If not for the corporate lock outs (I guess buying in bulk through cheap biddings really pay off), I’d prefer having my entire team running on Blackberries because at the very least, sending SMS would be a breeze.

That, or we wait till Windows Mobile 7.0.

This may be considered as one of Samsung’s entrry level phones with basic features but the fact is, if you’re an outdoor lover, the B2100 is water resistant up to one meter for 30 minutes, dust proof, shock proof and can claim to be elegant even when placed in front of the meeting desk. The B2100 comes with a 1.3MP camera, Mp3 player wth loud speakers and 6MB of internal memory + memory expansion.

While I was at Singapore for Nokia Connection, another bunch of friends from the press attended Samsung’s Communicasia ‘09 “presentation.” For them, this was the launch of the Samsung Jet, a touch screen phone similar to the OMNIA HD, except that it still uses Windows Mobile 6.1.

Their take away for the jet is that you don’t need to pinch to zoom in (obviously comparing to the iPhone). The “one finger zoom” feature is the highlight of the device, where pushing and holding to a part of the screen will allow you to zoom in and out when you move your finger up or down.

Supporting the latest smartphone features including user-friendly menu navigations, multi-task manager and Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, Samsung Jet boasts world firsts in both display technology and speed of performance. Its 16M WVGA AMOLED display (3.1”) offers the most vivid and colourful full touch mobile experience available. The WVGA AMOLED screen provides a resolution four times higher than a WQVGA screen. Happy weekend! Samsung sent over their new OMNIA HD for testing purposes. If I were to cut this review into one sentence, I’d be obliged to say that the OMNIA HD is essentially a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic that’s running on a nice big 3.7 inch AMOLED screen. Put together S60’s touch screen UI and Samsung’s design elements and you got yourself an OMNIA HD.

Both devices come with FM Radio support, 3.2MP camera, and Bluetooth. The Preston comes with a 2.8 inch screen while the Star comes with a slightly bigger 3 inch screen.

Both phones also utilize the Widget UI that has become popular among Samsung phones, allowing you to drag and drop widgets onto the main screen depending on what you need to access.

A rather eccentric review in the sense that he’s got a cowboy thing going. The Samsung Propel Pro is a non-touch screen Windows Mobile phone. The Propel has a good thing going for it with a really easy to use keypad (it’s fat!). The battery life is also good enough with 2 days of intensive use.

The Propel Pro also comes with WiFi and Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard. It doesn’t have a D-Pad, but a joystick to move up, down, left and right. All in all the Propel Pro is a pretty good WinMo phone because of the QWERTY keypad and LONG battery life.
