The most interesting sector right now, at least to me, is technology. Everyone thinks it stinks, despite its ability to weather all economic circumstance. Also, consider the fact is the whole world is technology dependent and cannot get off the tech treadmill. It’s a good business.

And stock, yeah that’s another thing. I won’t pretend to be an expert in it since I really am not but I’d like to ask my readers, without disclosing anything sensitive – if you do invest in tech stock, especially for mobile phone companies like Nokia, Samsung, Apple and Motorola.

I don’t own any. Stock isn’t my forte and with a past in tech journalism, it wasn’t exactly the best set up for professional reasons.

“Music on the outside, phone on the inside” seems to be the new slogan for these clamshell phones that are also marketed as MP3 players. What makes the Sony Ericsson W380i unique is a new feature called Gesture Control. If you want to mute an incoming call or stop an alarm all you need to do is put on some Darth Vader and pass your hand across the phone ala using the Force and the phone will respond to this action.

The phone comes with 14MB of internal memory and comes with memory card expansion options. Though there is no price listed yet, this phone seems to be one of the more affordable in the clamshell line of Sony Ericsson. The W380i is expected to ship soon.

You know, this kinda reminds me of the BenQ-Siemens P50. Interestingly enough, the ASUS P750 looks like an all around solid smartphone. Running on Windows Mobile 6 (with handwriting recognition), the P750 comes with a fast HSDPA connectivity feature as well as wireless 802.11g. Selling points include a 3MP camera, all around connectivity with push email and GPS.

“Early next year Barclaycard will run a trial of the technology on the back of its new ‘OnePulse’ contactless card, which was launched in September. OnePulse cards are combined credit cards and Oyster cards, and also allow small purchases (under £10) to be made without entering a Pin.

About 1,000 retailers in the capital are already equipped with the contactless terminals for OnePulse, so putting the technology into mobile phones will not require them to install yet more expensive kit. Honestly, I feel that this is a neat concept that is highly dependent on the culture of the society. For instance, although online purchases are quite common nowadays, there is a certain charm to lining up for Black Friday sales. Nonetheless, the adoption of mobile phones as pay methods is not new. However, there has to be a mindset change on the fact that if you lose, your cellphone, you lose more than your address book. Risky, ain’t it?

They say that there are always two sides of the same coin. The same can be said with mobile phones. The most out of the box yet functional design to grace a phone’s real estate is the two sided Samsung F300, sporting a 2.1 inch multimedia screen on one side for video and music and a smaller screen on the other side for calls. Back home, the advertisment with Beyonce has been playing across movie theatres for the past several weeks. Beyonce is the official endorser for Samsung’s line of mobile phones.

The phone I bought cost roughly $30.00 and is good for children under a year. Youngsters can exercise their fine motor skills and cognitive functions (I feel like an early childhood educator by just typing this) whilst they press the buttons and hear the cute sounds coming from the toy phone.
