Samsung Sway Promo from Verizon

Nope, this isn’t one of Samsung’s high ticket items. But it still is a promo from Verizon.

They’re giving away a free Samsung Sway with a two year plan. The Samsung Sway is a pretty basic unit with a built in camera, Bluetooth connectivity and MP3 player. Check it out now!

iPod or Music Phone?

I was having a conversation with a colleague in the publishing industry. We were talking about how Nokia has been trying to promote efforts for their Comes with Music brand in different parts of the world. At one point we talked about how it seems that they want to go head to head against the iPod as the choice for music. Although it doesn’t seem evident, there is truth to this as in my hypotheses, people only keep one music library — and that would be kept in their iPod.

Sure, their phones may have music but if you can …read more

Mobile Discount Coupons are Fast Rising

We all love coupons. A freebie is a freebie right? But sometimes the effort needed to cut out and save box tops may seem so insignificant, we forget to do so. With the rise of digital marketing in the past 10 years, email coupons have become a new way of sending promotions. Mobile coupons are pretty hot too — having grown to 10 million redeemed coupons in 2009. This was a 25% increase from 2008 according to coupon processing company, Inmar.
The joy of coupons processing through phones is simply, its convenience. You’ll never forget your phone. You’ll never forget your …read more

Apple Removes Apps: The Impenetrable DSR

Yeah I think I just made that term up. “DSR” stands for “Developer Service Representative.” If you hang a left and check out a recent (dramatized) conversation between the developer guys from VoiceCentral and Apple.
Well, as the author said, it was barely a conversation as the guy on the other end of the line was an impenetrable wall. VoiceCentral allegedly duplicates features that the iPhone has and it was “confusing the community.”
Here’s the cake. It’s basically a quote of a dramatization of the phone call:

Me: “So how do we know whether it is still viable for us to consider …read more

TORQUE DTV100: Dual SIM and Television!

OK boys and girls we’ve got a line up of China phones for you for the end of the week special. I’ll probably be featuring a few Torque phones in the next few days so stay tuned. I wanted to show off this little thing — the Torque DTV100, an odd looking fella with the keypad and directional pad located right beside one another. Though it may raise questions of “handedness” and being politically correct, I don’t think anyone will complain.

The DTV100’s special thing is that it comes with a dual standby, dual SIM feature allowing two SIM cards to …read more

Studded Nokia E71 never looked this good

A diamond encrusted Nokia E71 will cost you £5,999 (GBP). It’s a damn good phone, and by george, it looks amazing. The sides and back of the unit is encrusted in VS1 diamonds and is exclusive to Continental Mobile.

TORQUE D100 Dual SIM for less than $100

China made TORQUE phones are fast becoming a staple in the Asian market. Not only are they cheap, they’re pretty efficient as well. The D100 is TORQUE’s latest mobile handset that, not surprisingly, retails for less than $100. It’s most highlighted feature is its DUAL SIM network compatibility, thus making this the cheapest dual SIM phone in the market.
I’d really love to know how much dual SIM technology costs. As I was told, the most expensive component thus far for mobile phones is the WiFi chip that extends to about USD $10.00. With the phone retailing for about $70.00, …read more

Estonia is cool — voting for president using mobile phones in 2011

While I’m huddled in my little archipelago awaiting the presidential elections for 2010, I can’t help but read news about how Estonia will be voting for their president using mobile phones, apart from online key in systems. It’s not the technology I’m amazed at – it’s the security and confidence the people confide to that makes this a great occasion.

Raul Kaidro, who is the spokesman of the SK Certification Center in Estonia, says that it will be easy and secure: The voters will just need to previously obtain a free authorized chip. This chip will have an encrypted digital …read more

Bluetooth, GPS, HSPA, WiFi — let’s turn it into a package!

As a tech journalist, I repeatedly have to write about the mobile phone industry and almost sound like a broken record when it comes to naming specs for mobile phones. Bluetooth, WiFi, HSDPA, Song ID, GPS with geotagging and facetagging are all common connectivity options we see in today’s stable of phones. Most, if not all, are starting to sport the same standard features. What am I driving at here?
Remember when the Centrino package was launched many years ago? It wasn’t a processor, but a total marketing platform for Intel to show that when something is labeled as a Centrino, …read more
