Sexy text messages send you to jail

Send one text message and it’s five days in prison. Send two and you got ten days. There seems to be an exchange rate now for sexy text messages and jail time. Well that’s what is happening in China. Sending sexy text messages or those bordering on the obscene or erotic will send you straight to the slammer.

Thus, party bosses in Liaoning in China’s northeast have passed a law making those sending text messages containing such content liable to a criminal charge of sexual harrasment. Those found guilty could face five years in jail.

Obama’s speech stopped by duck ringtone

Straight out from a sitcom, President Obama’s speech is interrupted — humorously — by a quacking duck. The phonecall came from one of the members of the media during a press conference.

Air Writing: The Next Big Thing to SMS

Air Writing: The Next Big Thing to SMS

The concept reminds me much of high school kids in class passing notes to one another. But instead of writing notes in secret and passing them to seatmates, all they need to do now is scribble using their mobile phone. It’s as simple as that. Use the phone like a pen to scribble letters. I think the setup works like a combination of the Wiimote’s accelerometer from Nintendo and maybe, in the future, the Canson Papershow which I reviewed several months back. Yeah, there’s a name for this new technology and it’s called Air Writing.
Stay tuned, folks! The application is …read more

Sciphone: More on these iPhone clones

So it comes with GPRS connectivity, but yeah if you’re looking for a phone that works for about USD $100 — it even has an extra removable battery — then you might want to check out a few of iPhone clones that are coming out. There’s a WiFi version of the same clone for twice the price which is still a steal considering the fact that it even has dual SIM capabilities.

Other than those I mentioned, it has everything the iphone has and probably even more coz it comes with an extra battery, you can download Apple apps in it, …read more

“… before the networks get congested.”

“… before the networks get congested.”

There’s a standing myth about telco networks. It’s the same with bandwidth and population density for Internet connection: the more congested the network is for the holidays (SMS greetings and the like), the worse the connection gets. Thus, results from holiday telco greetings (Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! Happy New Year!) are evidently “problematic” to some extent when it hits Christmas or New Year’s eve.
Which is why a lot of people prefer to send their holiday greetings hours before midnight, “… before the networks get congested.”
Do you experience the same issues? I heard that congested networks are a myth. There’s …read more

Guinness Book record for “Fastest Text Messaging While Skydiving”

Yup. Samsung is making an attempt to grab the record for fastest text messaging while free falling from the sky.
Samsung Telecommunications America, (Samsung Mobile) a leading mobile phone distributor in the U.S., attempted to establish the Guinness World Record for “Fastest Text Messaging While Skydiving.” A team of professional skydivers text messaged while freefalling from 12,000 feet outside the Los Angeles city limits at the Samsung Mobile XTREME TEXTING event. The team of 10 skydivers used a variety of Samsung Mobile messaging phones during this challenge, including the Samsung Propel(TM), Samsung Gravity(TM), Samsung Rant(TM), Samsung Alias(TM) and Samsung Messager(TM). …read more

Nokia patents show wild screen flipping

Mobile phone screens are getting bigger and bigger. The challenge is to figure out how to integrate it into a brick. Just like these weird concepts that push mobile real estate to creative limits, Nokia’s latest patent allows some creative fusion between the touch screen and button keys, reminiscent of the Sony Ericsson P series.
The challenge is to create a widescreen mobile phone that goes over the top in terms of design. The sliding keyboard concept is so 2008, apparently and in ‘09 we might be seeing some new calisthenics for phone hardware. The patents are self explanatory.

Horror Stories. The one with cellphones — but not THAT kind.

No, I’m not talking about such stories like “SMS beyond the grave” or ghost photos on cellphones. I’m looking into something more practical – so practical that the thought of it failing can have horrific consequences. We’ve relied too much on the phones to the extent that if the zombie apocalypse happens, we’re on dead air and left in the dark. Has it ever happened that you really had something important to tell your spouse (like before you go home, please buy milk!) but you couldn’t because the network was down? Or you become victim to the case of the …read more

Happy Halloween! iPhones as pop culture costumes

Happy Halloween! iPhones as pop culture costumes

YouTube user mecredis (above) was interviewed wearing his Motorola brick iPhone costume at 0:13. Nothing fancy, but great for getting on television. That was in 2006.
Apple Museum has a hot chick standing beside some guy in an iPhone costume.
AF Jamison has an iPhone hanging from his neck.
And in the office?
Flickr user Gregory Hull has taken a photo of a dog with an iPhone costume oh (well I can’t assume its his dog).
The same thing goes for Scott Edwards. But it’s on him, not his dog.
Why is the iPhone such a popular costume to don? It could have been any other …read more
