Oh my God, Planet Japan is at it again with a new UI system that will stop the need for pushing buttons. Instead of your standard phone keypad, the new user interface eliminates buttons and replaces it with a touch-sensitive LCD. The LCD displays a series of options based on what can be done on the current screen. Yes, simplicity is beauty. But complexity is profound.
This leaves me with one question: Are personal data management devices that intelligent to know exactly what you want to access? As a tech junkie, I’m used to fiddling around with the ins and outs of the software. Several years ago, Palm took the path of simplicity over complexity. Look where they are now.
Ingenius? Yes. Fad? Maybe so.
On pressing the buttons on the screen, one can feel that they have been depressed like in a normal keypad. Also beautiful is the way that LEDs have been used under the material of the cell phone to indicate the time as well as missed calls. Since the phone already has two “internal” displays, putting in a third on the outer side would have been too much of a drain on the battery; this is a unique and smart solution.
