As expected, Dallas Cowboys defensive back and kick returner Adam Jones was officially and fully reinstated into the National Football League by Commissioner Roger Goodell yesterday following a 17-month suspension. The news really wasn’t a surprise to anyone, but Adam was understandably excited:
“I am fully a Dallas Cowboy. I don’t have it lingering over my head, will he get reinstated, will he not get reinstated. I just have to keep myself out of bad situations like I have been doing the last six or seven months ….. First and foremost, I don’t want to let myself down, definitely my little girl down. I’m thankful for (Cowboys owner) Jerry (Jones), the fans in Dallas and my teammates for believing in me. I need to keep doing what I’ve been doing to get reinstated, staying with myself and my teammates and staying away from those knuckleheads and just stay focused.”
Adam will continue to be on a short leash with the Cowboys and the NFL. And he won’t be able to repeat his past mistakes or invent any new ones. Because next time he won’t just be suspended. He’ll have to find a new career.
