Army Orders Caleb Campbell Back to Duty

I guess maybe the Detroit Lions knew it was a gamble to select Army football player Caleb Campbell in the 7th round of this past April’s NFL Draft. But at the time, Department of Defense policy allowed West Point grads to avoid active military service if they had the ability to become professional athletes. Which, obviously, Caleb did. (Check out my interview with Caleb.) Well, on this eve of Lions training camp, the DOD has now changed that policy and Caleb has been ordered to give up football for “full-time traditional military duties.” What the heck? So much for Caleb’s football career, I guess.

The Army is run by a bunch of jealous moguls! Do they realize how this will hurt their recruiting efforts? What a waste of a proof source. There is dumb, and then there is Army dumb.

  2. Josh says:

Change the rules as we go huh? That’s the government for you.
