Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger set a Steelers’ record with 32 TD passes last season, finishing second only to Tom Brady with a QB rating of 104.1. But he insists he has an even better grasp on offensive coordinator Bruce Arians’ offense this season:
“Because it was a new offense (last year), it’s kind of hard to be too vocal as a leader when you’re not sure what’s going on all the time on offense. This year I think I’ll be able to develop even more, and hopefully just be able to continue to grow into my leadership role.”
Makes sense, but it’s a scary thought for opposing defenses. Still, one of Ben’s primary concerns should be his protection. He was sacked 47 times last season. Only Detroit Lions QB Jon Kitna (51 sacks) took more of a beating. If he can get the help he so desperately needs, there’s no telling how good he (and the Steelers) will be in 2008.
