The Cincinnati Bengals have lost their patience with wide receiver Chris Henry. Today, the team cut Chris loose while he was in jail awaiting arraignment on assault charges. He’s being accused of punching an 18-year-old man in the face and breaking his car window with a beer bottle. It was his fifth arrest since 2005. Municipal Court Judge Bernie Bouchard set bond at $51,000 on charges of misdemeanor assault and criminal damaging. Noting Chris’ previous arrests involving drugs, guns and alcohol, the judge called him “a one-man crime wave.” He ordered electronic monitoring if Chris makes bail.
What can I say? Between Chris Henry, Pacman Jones and Michael Vick, I get tired of writing about negative stuff like this. Here we have a 24-year-old with immense talent on the football field who for some reason can’t seem to stay out of trouble off it. It’s really a shame. When you think of the tremendous opportunity Chris is just throwing away, it’s almost hard to fathom what could be going through his mind. You know another team will take a chance on him (given he’s not suspended again), but soon enough he’ll run out of chances and have no one to blame but himself. I hope he figures it out.
