Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress and Brett Favre will meet to discuss the possibility of Brett playing for the Vikings this season. This information is from to a source with direct knowledge of discussions between Brett and the Vikings. With all the recent speculation that Brett might wind up in Minnesota for the 2009 season, this get together was pretty much inevitable. Coach Childress and Brett will meet in an undisclosed location (top secret) later this week. I wonder how long it will be before the undisclosed location becomes public knowledge?

Here are five good reasons — in no particular order — why Brett will be the Vikings’ starting quarterback this season (somewhere in Seattle, T.J. Houshmandzadeh is having second thoughts):
- In Minnesota, Brett will be running a similar offense to the one he ran in Green Bay. Comfy.
- With Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor in the offensive backfield, the Vikings have one of the NFL’s strongest running games. Minnesota is a run-first offense so Brett won’t be asked to throw the ball 30-40 times a game for 16 weeks. But when it comes time to win a few, Brett Favre can still do that.
- The Vikings have one of the NFL’s strongest defenses (sixth overall last season giving up just 292 yards/game) — and a great defense is every quarterback’s best friend.
- Minnesota plays in the NFC North so Brett will be able to get his much-desired revenge on the Packers twice this season. Maybe more if the two meet in the playoffs.
- The Vikings are a legitimate Super Bowl contender with Brett at quarterback. The team is arguably a starting QB away from being a serious threat in the NFC. Sage Rosenfels, Tarvaris Jackson or John David Booty won’t cut it. The Vikings will be lucky to win eight games with one of those three at starting QB.
- OK, I thought of a sixth reason — the Vikings had a hard time selling out their playoff game against the Eagles last season and the team’s future in Minnesota is on shaky ground. How many seats do you think Brett Favre can fill? He’ll re-energize the organization and city.

Please tell me you’re not serious about the TJ Housh rethinking his move to Seattle statement…Remember what happened to Favre last time he played against Seattle (against the third string I might add)? Oh right, we ruined his (and the Jets) shot at making it into the playoffs. I’ll take a healthy Hasselbeck over an over-the-hill QB with a chip on his shoulder any day.
Watch out for the Seahawks next year…You’ll be eating your words.
Oh, and I almost forgot…Signing Favre for one year almost crippled the Jets organization for the long-haul. Sanchez could very-well pan out for them, but if they didn’t make that move they would be hurting this season…And if Sanchez flops, was it worth it in the end?
This could very-well be Childress’ last big move as the Vikings head coach. If this doesn’t pan out, I doubt he’ll be running the team next year.
Regarding T.J., I was half kidding. But only half. Housh said himself that the Vikings’ quarterback situation (translated: their lack of a quality starting quarterback) is what ultimately led him to Seattle. Had Brett Favre been in-place with the Vikes at that time, I believe he would’ve gone with Minnesota. Housh really liked the idea of playing with Adrian Peterson. Add Brett Favre to that equation and it’s just my feeling he would’ve picked Minnesota. As it stands, Housh definitely made the right decision to go to Seattle. As for coach Childress’ future in Minnesota, I (obviously) don’t like his (or the team’s) chances with their current stable of QBs. I like their chances better with Brett. But I can name 31 other QBs I like their chances better with as well.
