Brett Favre’s Return Now a Health Issue

Brett Favre’s latest “unretirement” saga continues. As predicted, yesterday’s Yahoo! Sports report claiming that Brett told the Vikings he was going to stay retired was bogus. News arrived today (from a more reliable source?) that said Brett will play for the Vikings this season if he doesn’t need major surgery on his injured biceps tendon. Apparently, Brett sent his X-rays to the team yesterday and they are evaluating the situation. We’ll have to wait until next week to get the scoop, but if Brett is deemed to not need major surgery, he will most likely join the Vikings.

Personally, I think it’s a bit more complicated than an operation (which Brett wants no part of). Even if Vikings’ doctors determine that Brett does not need major surgery (and what exactly is major surgery?), the team will have to get Brett to test his arm/shoulder. Brett has not thrown a ball since the end of last season and it’s not really even known what he’s capable of right now. It’s quite possible he doesn’t have enough left in his tank to make it through the grind of another NFL season. But if he does, it looks like it will be with the Vikings.
