Every Morning Quarterback

Chad Johnson is Now Chad Ochocinco

I realize nobody really cares, but Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Johnson will now be known as Chad Ochocinco. As you are probably aware, Chad legally changed his name last August, giving the Bengals and the NFL a headache in the process. And he asked the league and the media to call him Chad Ocho Cinco (note: two words in the last name). The NFL said “sure” but only under the condition that Chad would have to pay for the large inventory of “Johnson” jerseys that Reebok stocked for the season. Chad said “forget that” and played through 2008 as plain old Chad Johnson.

Well, it’s a new season and the league has agreed to let Chad wear his new name on the back of his jersey. But it will read “Ochocinco” because that’s precisely how Chad submitted it on his name-change form. So Chad really screwed this up. If he wanted to be known as Chad Ocho Cinco (and please be aware his motive is just plain stupid in the first place), he should have filed the name change that way.
