Cowboys Give Terrell Owens $34M Deal

It’s been a big day in Big D. Shortly after it was announced that Dallas Cowboys cornerback Pacman Jones had received limited reinstatement from Commissioner Roger Goodell, wide receiver Terrell Owens received a four-year, $34 million contract extension from the team. The $27 million he’s going to make over the next three seasons ranks him alongside Randy Moss, Javon Walker and Larry Fitzgerald as one of the highest paid wide receivers in the NFL. T.O. will receive a total of $13 million guaranteed. He is now under contract through 2011.

This was an issue the Cowboys needed to put behind them — before it became an issue. T.O. is too sensitive to feel slighted in the least, so the team did what they needed to do. It was a smart move. Does T.O. deserve that much money? Well, I guess I would rank him among the top five players at his position, so why not? And he’s a hard worker, I’ll give him that. I doubt he’ll have any trouble earning his keep. His first two years in Dallas have been very impressive. He led the Cowboys in receiving in ‘06 and ‘07 while piling up club records. And his 28 TD catches over the past two seasons are more than any other receiver, including Randy Moss, who set the league record for TDs in a single-season last year. Pay that man. It’s a done deal.
