Cowboys Beginning Another December Drought?

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was a bit defensive in his comments about his team’s lack of production during the month of December over the past few years. But it’s hard to argue with the results—or lack of results, as it’s been recently. The Cowboys always seem to find a way to squander any momentum they’ve built over the first three months of the season, falling apart when it matters most. Go back just one year ago. The Cowboys had the same record (8-4) at this time last year and did not qualify for the postseason.

After yesterday’s 31-24 loss to the N.Y. Giants, Tony didn’t want to talk about another December slump:
“We don’t care about December talk. The season will be written when it’s over with, no matter what happens in December. I know that’s part of it until we win in December, but I just think this team needs to win.”
Uh, yeah. But with streaking San Diego (seven straight wins) and New Orleans (12 straight wins) still on the Cowboys’ remaining four game schedule, Dallas will once again be very lucky to simply make the playoffs. In fact, I’ll predict the Cowboys will not only lose those two games but also their December 27 game against the cursed hopeful Washington Redskins. And if they fail to make the playoffs (again) this season, there could be a substantial housecleaning in order in Dallas.

Colts Tie NFL Record, Stay Unbeaten

With a decisive 27-17 win over the red hot Tennessee Titans this afternoon, the Indianapolis Colts not only remained unbeaten at 12-0—they also tied an NFL record for most consecutive regular season wins, previously held by the 2006-08 New England Patriots. And looking ahead—if they beat the Denver Broncos in Week 14, the Colts will not only break that consecutive wins record, they will more importantly also clinch home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs.
Not surprisingly, quarterback Peyton Manning kept things in perspective:
“We certainly do not take it for granted. It’s obviously fun to win. It does build momentum, but …read more
Brett Favre Breaks Consecutive Game Record

It was the best of nights. But it was also the worst of nights. As Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre broke the National Football League’s consecutive games played record (starting consecutive game number 283), he had his worst game of the season and the Minnesota Vikings were manhandled in every phase of the game by the Arizona Cardinals 30-17.
Brett broke former Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jim Marshall’s record of 282 consecutive games played. But in the process, he threw two interceptions and looked confused and uncomfortable by Arizona’s defense all night. Up until this game, Brett seemed nearly invincible. But …read more
LaDainian Tomlinson Fastest to 150 TDs

San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson became the National Football League’s fastest player to score 150 touchdowns this afternoon as the Bolts beat the Cleveland Browns 30-23. LT reached 150 TDs in his 137th game. By comparison, former Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith did it in 160 games. But this wasn’t the only milestone LT reached during this game. He also passed Marshall Faulk for ninth place on the NFL’s career rushing list. And then he beat out Jim Brown for eighth place. On the afternoon, LT had 20 carries for 64 yards and also caught one pass …read more
Redskins Help Saints Stay Undefeated

This is not a story about how the New Orleans Saints are 12-0. No. But, it’s easy to see why the Washington Redskins are 3-9. They had a perfect recipe for how to lose a game in the National Football League. Against undefeated New Orleans this afternoon, the Saints didn’t find a way to win (as they have many other times this season) as much as the Redskins found a way to lose. Washington rolled up 455 yards of total offense, but squandered one opportunity after another en route to dropping their third straight game (all three games by a …read more

Bills Toronto Series vs. N.Y. Jets

PREGAME: Despite running behind schedule and fighting bumper-to-bumper traffic on my way into the city, I was surprised I was the first to sign-in to the Press Box for tonight’s NFL Network Thursday Night Football game between the Buffalo Bills and N.Y. Jets at Rogers Centre in Toronto. It’s December 3. And it’s 39 degrees outside. Needless to say, the roof on this place is closed.
I’m in Row 1, Seat 31 in the football Media section—which puts me exactly at the 40-yard-line (there’s also a baseball media section in the end zone). One thing I like about this Press Box …read more
T.O. in TO: Terrell Owens Enjoys Spotlight

Buffalo Bills receiver Terrell Owens is no stranger to the spotlight. And he’s not one to shy away from attention. So when the Bills Toronto Series (version 2.0) is on display for NFL Network’s internationally televised Thursday Night Football audience this evening against the N.Y. Jets, all eyes will be on one of the best receivers in the National Football League.
In some instances, this game was marketed as T.O. in TO. And that’s just fine with Terrell:
“For me, it’s gonna be all eyes on me. No matter what I’m looking forward to the opportunity to go up there and showcase …read more
Buffalo Bills Toronto Series Continues

In the second installation of a five-year regionalization plan, the Buffalo Bills Toronto Series continues this week with an NFL Network Thursday Night Football game against AFC East division rival N.Y. Jets. It will mark the second NFL regular season game played in Canada and the sixth regular season game played outside the United States.
When this regionalization plan went into effect last season, many Bills fans felt it was merely the first step at permanently moving the team to Toronto. I, too, was somewhat skeptical at the motive behind the idea of sacrificing a regular season home game in Orchard …read more
Will the New Orleans Saints Go Undefeated?

After watching the New Orleans Saints dismantle the New England Patriots last night, I’m left wondering if there’s another team in the National Football League that can stop them? I felt if anyone could come up with a game plan to stop the NFL’s best offense (currently first in yards and points scored), it would be the Bill Belichick-led Patriots. But the Pats were just humbled.
The Saints amassed just under 500 yards of total offense in scoring 38 points—even without slasher back Reggie Bush. Drew Brees was as close to perfect as a quarterback can be in this league. …read more
