Is Tony Romo Distracted?

As tomorrow’s Divisional Playoff game between the Dallas Cowboys and N.Y. Giants draws near, much of the media talk is about whether or not Tony Romo is distracted. And most of that talk has been centered around whether he is specifically distracted by his pop star girlfriend Jessica Simpson. I find it all completely uninteresting, but my take is that he is not distracted by Jessica. I think that he is ultimately distracted by all the talk of being distracted. Instead of answering questions about the N.Y. Giants, he is answering questions about his personal life.

In an interview with Yahoo! Sports, Tony said:

“All this stuff people talk about, it’s kind of just — I don’t know how else to put it — media driven. It’s designed to sell papers and get hits on the Internet, but it doesn’t mean a thing. At the end of the day, it’s about what you do on the field.”

Well, first of all it’s page views, Tony. Page views. Aside from my contracted monthly salary, page views are what butter my bread. That’s why I’m writing this post. But, yes … it is about what you do on the field. And when you’re distracted, you can’t focus on what you do on the field. My advice? Quit talking to the media. Stay out of Mexico. And focus on football until the season is over. That’s why you’re getting paid $67.5 million. Tony can quiet his critics by playing well and winning this game against the Giants. But if the Cowboys lose? Boy is Tony Romo going to be distracted.
