Think NFL fans aren’t hungry for some football almost two months before training camp even begins? YouTuber rockclimber556 captured this footage of recently drafted quarterback John Beck in 7-on-7 drills at Miami Dolphins minicamp. It might be Trent Green leading the Dolphins this season, but John is the future of the franchise at QB and he looked good in practice. It was interesting to get a fan’s perspective, enthusiasm and comments in this video.

I’ve had the last 3 years to observe John Beck at BYU and it is no suprise to me to see him making a good impression at mini-camp. I feel that the Dolphins got a steal in drafting him and I am sure that he will go on to become an excellent NFL QB. Historically speaking about half of the first round QB’s turn out well the other half are busts. The same trend exists for the first couple of rounds, so you have to ask yourself how costly do you want your QB mistake to be? This tends to happen particularly because scouts and experts more than they should put an emphasis on physical size and strength rather than actual football ability. So this year out of the first 4 QB’s (Russel, Quinn, Kolb, Beck) you can bet that probably 2 will be busts. My guess is that Beck will do great, Quinn will be one of the busts. The fact that Brady Quinn is an inch and a half taller, bench presses more, and had a high profile alma mater doesn’t change the fact that Beck is simply better at throwing a football, more intelligent, and works harder (and he’s faster). He’s also a winner and has some memorable wins in the clutch, rather than losing melt downs. I think that Miami was smart in waiting because they got 2 great picks and if you want to see some good football, look at BYU’s last season and you’ll see how tough, strong, intelligent and suprisingly mobile John Beck is. I look forward to followind and cheering Beck and the Dolphins.
