The attempted trade of Buffalo Bills defensive tackle John McCargo to the Indianapolis Colts (one of only two trades to take place before yesterday’s NFL trade deadline) was voided today because John flunked his physical with the Colts. Oops. John apparently has a bad disc in his back, so he’s on his way back to Buffalo where Bills defensive line coach Bill Kollar recently questioned John’s determination and desire:
“It’s like we’ve said from Day One, you’ve got to really want to play. It’s real easy to go and talk about it. But what you have to do is work and get better on the practice field and take it into the game. He’s got the ability. But deep inside yourself you’ve got to want to end up getting it done. You’ve got to end up doing it on the field.”
I guess coach Kollar was simply speaking his mind, but now that John is back with the Bills (maybe), it might make for an uncomfortable situation with his position coach. Of course, John can still prove everyone wrong by working his butt off on the field — if he gets another chance.
