This is not a hot streak. It’s also not shades of the past. And there is no longer a quarterback competition in Arizona. This is a full-blown Most Valuable Player effort that continues to build momentum week after week during this 2008 season.
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner is tearing up the NFL much the same way he did in his “heyday” with “The Greatest Show on Turf” St. Louis Rams back in 1999. That’s the last time Kurt won the NFL’s highest individual honor. And the Rams won the Super Bowl. We might be in the process of watching history repeat itself.
This afternoon in a 26-20 win over the Seattle Seahawks, Kurt threw for 395 yards (his 4th straight 300+ yard passing effort) and a touchdown. He also completed 73% of his passes. Through 10 games, Kurt leads the NFL in completion percentage and quarterback rating. And he’s second in yards passing and touchdown throws. Is this an MVP effort? Quite possibly. I understand we still have six games to go, but whose effort has meant more to his team at this point? Sure, there will be arguments that Kurt puts the ball on the ground from time-to-time (he did so this afternoon giving the Hawks a short field score), but the Arizona Cardinals are not 7-3 and running away with the NFC West without Kurt Warner.
