Mark Cuban Considers New Football League

Here we go again. Some hotshot with too much money and too much time on his hands thinks he’s going to start a professional football league to rival the NFL. In a post at BlogMaverick.com yesterday, Dallas Mavericks eccentric billionaire owner Mark Cuban said his proposed UFL (United Football League) would hopefully someday be the NFL’s equal or more. I can’t tell you how funny I think this is. I laughed and laughed and laughed. For starters, I can give you three reasons Cuban should find something else to occupy the hours he obviously has too many of:

  • the WFL
  • the USFL
  • the XFL

And here are a couple more. The UFL would play games on Friday nights, but where do they plan on televising them? The NFL has huge contracts with NBC, FOX, CBS and ESPN. That leaves ABC, but ABC and ESPN are both under the same Disney ownership. Do you really think any of these networks is going to slap the NFL in the face by supporting a competing league? I don’t think so. Plus, the league would be built primarily with players that couldn’t make it in the NFL. Who wants to watch something like that? Sure, they might get a few top-notch players, but the bulk of the UFL would be like a minor-league NFL. We already have NFL Europa. The UFL would essentially be an NFL Europa … er Americana. Not even. It’s a ridiculous idea and a waste of time, energy and eventually finances to consider.

So far, the proposed new league is in its infancy and Cuban is the only potential owner for what the founders hope will be an eight-team league. Sheesh. People, get a grip.

I wonder why, it so difficult to establish a rival football league. It’s only a sport, It needs employees and players like any other organization.

Why must the NFL be the only existing fall league? This is America, land of opportunity. How many different airlines, grocery stores, auto companies, ect… imagine only having one brand of everything. I liked the USFL & XFL I like new beginnings and watching history turn into tradition. These leagues have to realized the NFL has come a long way and true stability does not happen over night. As for the NFL, It should absorb any league where it is not established. They should have saved the XFL’s Los Angeles Extreme. They should have taken The Wranglers,Bulls, Showboats,Gunslingers,Breaker & Stars Those were none NFL cities at the time.

I want to see the UFL and I’ll watch every game until as long as it’s around.

I dont think it would work out because recentley the AFL closed up the 09 and might not come back because owners are leaving and giving up teams….i think the same will happen to this league….keep in mind though the AFL did run for 22 yrs
