NFL Europa, formerly known as NFL Europe, kicked off their 15th season yesterday with a rematch of last year’s World Bowl. Defending champs Frankfurt Galaxy beat the Amsterdam Admirals 30-14. The other games: Cologne beat Hamburg 24-18 and Berlin beat Rhein 15-3. I usually keep one eye on NFL Europa. I can’t really say I’m a big fan. The past two seasons I’ve devoted one BIGPLAY RADIO NFL PODCAST to the World Bowl, with a player interview from across the pond prior to the big game. So, I guess that’s something. Anyway, the season is underway if you care.

Total attendance for the opening weekend was 89,367, the highest single-weekend total in the six-team league’s history. The previous high was 89,001 set in Week 9 of the 2005 season. The 2007 season’s Kickoff Weekend attendance was up 64 percent from last year’s opening mark (54,411). The World Bowl rematch between Amsterdam and Frankfurt drew 38,125 fans to top all three games.
