No Decision Yet on Brett Favre Reinstatement

As I mentioned in the comments to yesterday’s post about Brett Favre filing his income tax reinstatement paperwork, Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy flew to Brett’s home in Mississippi to try to talk him out of returning to the team. Unfortunately, neither Brett nor Mark spoke with the media about the meeting afterwards. Brett’s agent, Bus Cook, only said that things “were going well,” whatever that means. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell did not make a decision on Brett’s reinstatement today. League spokesman Greg Aiello made the following announcement, though:
“The commissioner is taking no action today. He wants to give both the Packers and Brett an appropriate amount of time to make decisions, including decisions impacting the team’s roster and salary cap. When Brett is reinstated, we will announce it.”
You’ll notice he said “when” Brett is reinstated. That’s a mere formality. But, the whole world will announce this event. This ongoing “unretirement” saga continues to amaze me. Speculation among sports fans everywhere is rampant. I was at a Finish Line store tonight talking about it with several employees. And upon entering a Foot Locker a few minutes later, you can guess what the conversation was about. Then I hopped in my Jeep, turned on ESPN Radio and there it was again. Until tomorrow…
