The Oakland Raiders continued their offseason activity by signing DE Kalimba Edwards to a two-year, $5 million deal today. I’d say this was a great pickup if Kalimba had been living up to his potetntial. But if that were the case, he’d still be in Detroit with the Lions. I hesitate to get too excited for the Raiders on this one. The move is a justifiable attempt to not only continue improving on their 22nd-ranked defense, but to also boost their pass rush. Oakland’s hoping to give DE Derrick Burgess a compliment on the other side of the D-line. With Chris Clemons gone to Philadelphia via free agency, it’s Kalimba’s job to lose. An effective pass rush will only enhance the expected stellar play of DBs DeAngelo Hall and Nnamdi Asomugha. But Kalimba only has 26 sacks and 10 forced fumbles in six seasons. Potential, yes. A guarantee? Hardly.
