Former San Diego Chargers linebacker Steve Foley will receive $5.5 million in the settlement of a lawsuit against the City of Coronado, California and a police officer who shot him just before the start of the 2006 season. If you recall the story, Steve was followed home by an off-duty police officer on the suspicion of drunk driving. When the officer pulled him over, he thought Steve was reaching for a gun so he opened fire. Steve did eventually plead guilty to drunk driving. He was the recipient of a positive finacial settlement in this case, but his attorney said there was really no way for a happy resolution because the incident tragically ended his client’s career.
