The Houston Texans signed free agent linebacker Roosevelt Colvin yesterday. Rosie had 52.5 sacks in nine years with the Patriots and the Bears. He started 10 of 11 games for the Pats last season before unfortunately missing the last five regular season games and the playoffs with a foot injury. The Texans are talking about playing him at linebacker and defensive end, but either way you can bet he’ll be rushing the QB, something he loves to do:

The Houston Texans signed free agent linebacker Roosevelt Colvin yesterday. Rosie had 52.5 sacks in nine years with the Patriots and the Bears. He started 10 of 11 games for the Pats last season before unfortunately missing the last five regular season games and the playoffs with a foot injury. The Texans are talking about playing him at linebacker and defensive end, but either way you can bet he’ll be rushing the QB, something he loves to do:

“My passion is rushing the passer. It’s something I feel like I do well. I feel like I’m versatile enough to play a couple of different positions. So whether or not I’ll be playing offensive line or quarterback, defensive end or linebacker, it remains to be seen (laughing). As we try to go forward from here, the most important thing is that I remain healthy. I’ll try to get my role and what that’s going to be.”

This is a great pickup for the Texans. I believe Rosie has a few good years left and if he can stay healthy, he’ll be a force with Houston for at least a couple seasons, maybe more. I can’t believe he’s been unemployed for four months. Obviously, his age and the foot injury were major concerns for a lot of teams, but Rosie says he’s healthy and ready to play. He’ll join a defense that features first-round Draft picks Mario Williams, Amobi Okoye and Travis Johnson on the line and the 2006 Defensive Rookie of the Year, linebacker DeMeco Ryans. There’s another NFL team in Texas besides the Cowboys and Houston fans have a lot to be excited about.

As part of the festivities surrounding the 2008 NFL PLAYERS Gala featuring the JB (James Brown) Awards in Washington D.C., players from around the National Football League joined local Special Olympics athletes for a football clinic yesterday morning. The clinic featured more than 75 local Special Olympics athletes participating alongside NFL player-honorees in five friendly, non-contact football stations. The players interacted with the athletes and helped demonstrate a variety of offensive and defensive skills, including passing, receiving, and kicking.
