Buffalo Bills Fire Head Coach Dick Jauron

The Buffalo Bills fired head coach Dick Jauron today. This really doesn’t come as any surprise. It was more an issue of “if not now, when?” And what better time than when you’re 3-6 and coming off three-plus seasons with a .421 winning percentage? Coach Jauron, while certainly a kind man who gave it all he had, simply could not revive a team that hasn’t made the playoffs since 1999. That streak ties the Detroit Lions for the longest active dry spell for any non-expansion team. All this being said, the Bills’ problems run deeper than the head coach, but …read more

NFL Coaches Inspired by USO Trip

Current and former NFL coaches Jon Gruden, Tom Coughlin, Bill Cowher, Jeff Fisher and John Harbaugh are currently on the inaugural NFL-USO Coaches Tour. The group is traveling to meet and greet service members for several days in the Persian Gulf region.
Coach Gruden is describing the experience as “life-changing” for himself and his colleagues:
“You can read about what our troops are doing over here or you can watch reports on television, but none of that can compare to being here with them. It’s inspiring. I think sometimes people forget the role our military plays in keeping our country safe. There …read more

But there are so many other storylines and, of course, sports writers and fans have spent the past two weeks dissecting all the possibilities.
Certainly, I believe strength against strength is the most intriguing of tonight’s matchups. But, a few others quickly come to mind. I think the Cardinals are a completely different football team when …read more

Cleveland Browns Courting Bill Cowher?

National Football League Blogcast, NFL Blogcast
I’ve heard the rumors over the past few months, but apparently former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach (and former Cleveland Browns player and coach) Bill Cowher has been approached about the possibility of coaching the Browns. The report said the Browns are willing to offer coach Cowher a contract worth between $8-9 million per season. I don’t doubt the validity of the offer, but I question whether coach Cowher wants to return to the game. At that rate of compensation, and if he would have the control he wants (meaning Browns GM Phil Savage would probably …read more

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Warrick Dunn was presented with the 42nd annual Byron “Whizzer” White Award, the NFL Players Association’s (NFLPA) highest honor, yesterday at the NFL PLAYERS Gala featuring the JB Awards in Washington, D.C. Warrick was one of several NFL players honored by James Brown, host of “THE NFL TODAY” on CBS, along with “THE NFL TODAY” analyst and former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher.
The event, which recognized NFL players for their individual contributions to their communities, raised nearly $1 million, the …read more
