Apparently, these Green Bay Packers knit hats are hard to find. You’ve seen Brett Favre and other Packers players wearing them. I’m just surprised they’re not in stock anywhere. In fact, the very same hat is selling on eBay for $150. NFLShop.com has them for sale but if you need them in time for Christmas, you’re out of luck. There’s a five to six week wait. Kate Hogan, the team’s director of retail ops said she hasn’t seen an item become this popular in years:

“There’s just a feel around not just the town, but the state and with Packers fans across the country, that they haven’t had in probably 10 years. It’s definitely exciting. It’s a great problem to have.”

The Packers are not alone. A few other teams have hard-to-find hats — like the New England Patriots who are on a four-to-five-week wait. Even the Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills are in one-week-wait status. I was in the Bills Store by Ralph Wilson Stadium yesterday and I can tell you there is a whole stack of these Bills hats. So, keep looking around but please don’t spend $150 on eBay. For an $18 cap, that should be against the law.

After a complete game 38-7 drubbing of the Oakland Raiders today, it’s easy to say the Green Bay Packers are balanced. Brett Favre may be having an MVP-type season, but he’s getting a lot of help. Let me count the ways:

The running game that was absent earlier in this 2007 season is now clearly led by Ryan Grant who carried the ball 29 times today for 156 yards.

Special teams are now scoring. Will Blackmon became the first player since 1974 to return a punt and fumble recovery in the same game for a touchdown.

The Packers defense is ranked a respectable 12th against the run, but they’re on the rise after holding Oakland to 85 rushing yards.

WR Greg Jennings is making big plays. With five TDs of at least 40 yards, Greg added an 80-yarder today. He now has 11 TD catches.

We know the Packers are one of the top two teams in the NFC. But the more help they give Brett Favre’s right arm, the better chance they’ll have of repping the conference in the Super Bowl.

Brett Favre is out of control. This afternoon he became only the second quarterback in NFL history to reach 60,000 passing yards in a 34-0 rout of the Minnesota Vikings. For the Vikes, it was a must-win to get back into the NFC North playoff race, but the Packers were having none of it as the offense controlled the ball for a whopping 40 minutes and the defense held Minnesota to 247 total yards.
Brett continued his incredible season going 33 of 46 for 351 yards and three TDs. He trails only Dan Marino, whose all-time mark of 61,361 yards passing still stands as the most in NFL history.

Brett has found some kind of fountain of youth. And he probably wishes he’d play the Vikings every week. The last time he lined up against the Purple, he passed (literally) Dan Marino for most TD passes all-time. He now trails Dan by 1,456 yards, so it’s likely, if he continues his current pace, that he’ll eclipse that mark this season. In fact, he only needs to average 208 passing yards/game the rest of the way to do it. My prediction? He’ll break it at St. Louis December 16.

Entering the 2007 season, Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre needs only seven more touchdown passes to top Hall of Famer Dan Marino on the NFL’s all-time list in that category. Dan has 420. Brett has 414. Nobody else is even close. Fran Tarkenton is in third place with 342. Of course, one still-active player, Peyton Manning, might have something to say about this record before he is done. Peyton has 275 TDs and counting.

You think this record didn’t have something to do with Brett’s return for another season in Green Bay? You’d better believe it did. I know the Packers are a promising young team, but Brett’s no dummy. He saw that record well within reach. He’s already got a Super Bowl ring. He wants the record.

And I know this is a pretty bold statement, but I’m not even sure how much of a threat or how fast Randy Moss is after nine seasons in the NFL. Don’t get me wrong. Randy Moss, in his early years with the Vikings, was virtually unstoppable. I can’t think of another player I enjoyed watching more than Moss in his heydey. I just don’t think that’s the case anymore. What Brett Favre needs is the best incoming player in this year’s Draft — Calvin Johnson. So, if the Packers are going to get all crazy and make a big trade for what might be the missing link to Brett Favre’s final Super Bowl run and thus one last heroic and successful ride into the football sunset, they would be better suited to make a big splash by going after Johnson rather than Moss.
