As expected, the Arizona Cardinals released running back Edgerrin James today. The Cards also gave defensive back Rod Hood and defensive end Travis LaBoy their walking papers, clearing salary cap space for higher priority players like Karlos Dansby, Adrian Wilson and maybe even Anquan Boldin (imagine that).
It was Edgerrin’s wish to be released by the team last season when his playing time had dwindled to a mere backup role behind Tim Hightower. NFL Grants Special Eligibility to 46 Underclassmen for 2009 NFL Draft

The National Football League announced today the names of 46 players who have been granted special eligibility for the 2009 NFL Draft on April 25-26. Each of the 46 players has met the league’s three-year eligibility rule and each has submitted a written application in which he renounced his remaining college football eligibility. The deadline for receiving applications was January 15. In alphabetical order, those players are:
