Browns Not Looking to Trade Brady Quinn

The Cleveland Browns aren’t actively pursuing a trade for quarterback Brady Quinn. But they are getting phone calls. And they’re listening. The Browns are in the middle of a “rebuilding phase”—if you want to call it that. And their 1-4 record proves it. I guess. Derek Anderson took over the starting quarterback role two weeks ago and even though he only completed two passes last week against Buffalo (seriously, I think I could’ve done that), he’s still the starter and Brady will hold the clipboard, so to speak, for the foreseeable future.
Browns head coach Eric Mangini said what he could …read more

Brady Quinn Will Start at QB for Browns

Brady Quinn will be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns when they open the 2009 regular season against the Minnesota Vikings Sunday. Browns head coach Eric Mangini didn’t reveal who the starting QB would be—he was trying to fool the Vikings by not announcing his decision—but word got out pretty quickly after Brady took the first team snaps in practice today. Even Buffalo Bills receiver Terrell Owens got in on the disclosure, announcing it on his Twitter page today.
I don’t know why coach Mangini was keeping this decision a secret anyway. It isn’t like prep work for Brady Quinn …read more

Browns QBs Anderson, Quinn Still Competing

The starting quarterback position for the Cleveland Browns is still a question mark for new head coach Eric Mangini. Both Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn are competing for first-team QB honors and if today’s minicamp practice was any indication, coach Mangini is still a long way from finding the answer to his quarterbacking dilemma.
While many perceive the Browns to be in an enviable position with two potential starters, neither player is taking command of new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll’s game plan the way the team had hoped. In fact, during two-minute drills this afternoon, both quarterbacks finished their work with …read more

Derek Anderson or Brady Quinn?

National Football League Blogcast, NFL Blogcast
New Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini isn’t sure who his starting quarterback will be when the team opens the 2009 National Football League regular season in roughly five months. So he’s declaring it an open competition between QBs Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn:
“I’m excited about both of them. I sat down with both of them, been able to spend some time with them. I like both guys. I like a lot of the things that I’ve learned about them in terms of through the conversations and also things that I’ve seen on tape. Without …read more

Derek Anderson Likely Out For Season

National Football League Blogcast, NFL Blogcast
The Cleveland Browns’ luck has gone from bad to worse. Any quarterback controversy officially ended last week when then-starter Brady Quinn’s season ended with a injury. He had replaced Derek Anderson nine games into the season and the “Brady Quinn Era” had begun. Now, no sooner did Derek get his starting job back than his season looks like it’s over after he suffered an MCL sprain today during the 4th quarter of a miserable 10-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Afterward, Browns head coach Romeo Crennel called it like he saw it:
“I’m not encouraged by …read more

Brady Quinn Debut Review

National Football League Blogcast, NFL Blogcast
In the end, quarterback Brady Quinn wasn’t the answer. At least not on this night. It was just another demoralizing, frustrating loss for the Cleveland Browns. But in the process of dropping to 3-6 on the season, Brady played about as well as could possibly have been expected in his National Football League debut as a starting QB — a 34-30 loss to the Denver Broncos last night. He even shouldered the blame afterward (even though I hope he understands he can’t prevent his teammates from fumbling or dropping passes — oh, and he doesn’t …read more

Brady Quinn Era Begins in Cleveland

National Football League Blogcast, NFL Blogcast
Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn can put down the clipboard, unhook the wires and get into the game now. The Browns confirmed today that Brady will be the starting QB against the Denver Broncos as the NFL’s Thursday night schedule begins this week. Brady will replace an inconsistent Derek Anderson who didn’t have a terrible game (17-of-33, 219 yards, 2 TDs) against the NFL’s second best defense yesterday, but he threw a costly late interception that was returned for a touchdown and sealed the Browns’ fate in a 37-27 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Apparently, …read more

Cleveland Browns Thinking Brady Quinn

National Football League Blogcast, NFL Blogcast
After an unexpected 0-3 start to this 2008 season, Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel is considering a quarterback change to give his team a spark. All-Pro QB Derek Anderson is struggling to match (or even come close to) his success from last season. Thus far he has five interceptions and a 43.5 passer rating. And only two touchdowns. Uggh. The Browns have scored a measley 26 points and are a loss away from panic mode. So Coach Crennel is (possibly) making the necessary adjustments:
“The thing we have to do is evaluate what we’ve done …read more

The Cleveland Browns are doing more than staying competitive this offseason. The Browns are preparing themselves for a Super Bowl run. First, they locked up QB Derek Anderson for three-years yesterday. Then they got him another weapon on offense — former New England Patriots WR Donte Stallworth. The Browns are wisely building their team around their quarterbacks — Derek and Brady Quinn. GM Phil Savage said:
“Donte’ will be the major addition to our offense this year. He will bring legitimate speed, quickness and playmaking ability to the receiving corps and add a …read more

Derek Anderson Re-Signs With Browns

Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson wasn’t a free agent for long. After turning down a three-year, $20 million deal from the Browns before the free agency signing period began this morning, Derek agreed to a multi-year deal with the team today. Why he waited a couple of hours beyond the deadline is beyond me. Apparently, there was some interest from another team(s) in order for him to turn the deal down in the first place, but he did a quick about-face and stayed with the Browns. Cleveland has Brady Quinn waiting in …read more
