2009 AFC Pro Bowl Roster

The Indianapolis Colts are going to limp into training camp this year. With about three weeks to go before the Colts report to Terre Haute, it appears reigning Defensive Player-of-the-Year Bob Sanders (shoulder) and three-time All-Pro Dwight Freeney (foot) will most likely be on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list when camp opens. To make matters worse, linebacker Tyjuan Hagler (who is expected to start at the Sam LB spot) tore a pec muscle lifting weights this week and is also expected to miss the start of training camp. The good news is that all three should be ready for the start of the regular season, but it’s never a good thing to miss time with your teammates in training camp.

Happy Mother’s Day

The Indianapolis Colts had 14 players either out or limited in practice this week. It got to a point where head coach Tony Dungy had to do some serious improvising.

“We’ve had defensive linemen practicing on offense; the same guys running (pass) routes for both sides. That’s where you have to be careful that it doesn’t wear your team down. But you still have to try and get that good high tempo practice. And for a couple of weeks, we’ve been able to hang in and do that.”

Yeah, but they lost two straight games (New England and San Diego) in the process. This is typically the time of year when injuries start piling up and the Colts are hurting. Their most publicized loss was that of All-Pro DE Dwight Freeney for the rest of the season. And those players who missed practice yesterday included OT Daniel Federkeil, TE Bryan Fletcher (calf), S Matt Giordano (hamstring), WRs Anthony Gonzalez (thumb) and Marvin Harrison (knee), CBs Dante Hughes (shoulder) and Tim Jennings (upper leg) and LB Tyjuan Hagler (neck). They are all listed as questionable for tomorrow’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

If the Colts can survive this stretch of bad luck without letting any more games slip away, they should position themselves nicely in the AFC postseason picture. But it might already be too late to think about home field in the playoffs with the Patriots running amuck.

Indianapolis Colts Reeling From Injuries

The cover athlete for NFL Tour, a new NFL licensed arcade football video game from my friends at EA Sports, will be determined through an open online voting process. Voters will be able to choose between Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor, Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney, or San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman. At the end of the voting process, the NFL player who receives the most votes will be announced as the official cover athlete for NFL Tour. To get in on the action, check out voteNFLtour.com.

NFL Tour will offer fans a fun experience with the NFL and its players. Gamers will be able to embark on a fictional NFL road show. With real NFL players as teammates, players will travel across the country to play against each of the NFL teams in newly designed stadiums. As players defeat each of the NFL squads, they come one step closer to winning a NFL contract.

My guess is that Shawne Merriman will win the majority of the votes. This game will launch under the EA Sports BIG category and Shawne fits the image perfectly.
